Big 12 March Madness Bubble Watch: BYU Bolsters NCAAB Odds

Two of the three Big 12 games played on Wednesday finished over that total. Will that trend continue this weekend?

Houston is on the verge of clinching the Big 12 regular-season title while only three games separate the next five teams in the standings with just three games left.

Houston (+750) trails only Auburn and Duke in the odds of winning March Madness. Iowa State (+1800) is seventh in the championship odds while Arizona and Texas Tech are both priced at +3500 to win the national title.

BYU Might Squash to Bubble Team Talk

BYU’s days as a bubble team could be numbered after back-to-back wins over Kansas and Arizona. The only remaining game against a ranked team comes against Iowa State early next week.

The Cougars are at No. 28 in the NCAA NET rankings despite a 4-6 record in Quad 1 games and two Quad 2 losses. BYU is 13-2 at home but only 5-5 on the road after Wednesday’s win over Arizona State, per college basketball betting trends.

Baylor has a losing record in conference play after dropping its last three games. A 2-9 road record and a 5-10 mark against Quad 1 teams could be an issue when the March Madness bracket is finalized.

With the regular-season finale against Houston, the Bears need to take care of business in matchups with Oklahoma State and TCU.

West Virginia is 4-3 against ranked teams so that might help the Mountaineers get a long look. However, a 3-3 in Quad 2 games could have West Virginia headed to the NIT.

Houston Closing in on March Madness No. 1 Seed

Houston is looking pretty good to be a No. 1 seed in the March Madness bracket. All four losses have come to Quad 1 teams and the Cougars have just one loss in league play in one of the top conferences in the country. The final two games in the regular season against Kansas and Baylor could be interesting.

The BetUS sportsbook had five teams with shorter odds of winning the Big 12 title when the season got underway than Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are fighting for second place in the Big 12 and are sitting in the No. 7 spot in the NCAA NET rankings despite just one win over a ranked team. A matchup with Kansas is looming this weekend before the regular season ends against a pair of teams with losing records.

Arizona and Iowa State are also in the top 10 in the NCAA NET rankings. Arizona’s five victories against ranked teams is tied for the most in the Big 12 while Iowa State looks to bounce back after losing to Houston and Oklahoma State in its last two games. The NCAAB betting line listed Iowa State as a double-digit favorite against Oklahoma State.

Despite a 4-7 record in Quad 1 games and a pair of Quad 2 losses, Kansas comes in at No. 19 in the NCAA NET rankings.

Will Bubble Burst for Cincy?

Cincinnati is still in the top 50 in the NCAA NET rankings despite an ugly 1-9 record in Quad 1 games. The Bearcats are just 7-10 in the Big 12. The last chance to impress the Selection Committee before the Big 12 tournament will come on Saturday with a nationally televised game at Houston. They should be sizable underdogs, per Cincinnati vs Houston stats.

TCU still has a chance to finish with a winning record in Big 12 play. However, a 2-4 record in Quad 2 games could be a deal-breaker.
