- Read on for my March Madness breakdown for Big East teams this week.
St. John’s is not only closing in on the Big East regular-season title, but the Red Storm is also the only Big East team in the top 20 in the NCAA NET rankings, so the NCAA Selection Committee will need to make some decisions.

Marquette had 17 3-pointers to roll past Providence in the only Big East game on Tuesday. There are four games set for Wednesday and the only one featuring two teams with winning records is between Georgetown and UConn.
St. John’s (+3000) has the shortest odds of winning March Madness among Big East teams. Two-time defending national champion UConn (+7000), Marquette (+7500) and Creighton (+10000) are other teams from the Big East in the top 25 in the championship odds.
The regular season wraps up on March 8 so there isn’t much time for Big East teams to add quality wins to their total. BetUS will continue to update the March Madness hopes of Big East teams.
Big East March Madness Analysis
Will Bubble Burst for Two-Time Defending Champion UConn?
UConn could have picked up a huge win against St. John’s at Madison Square Garden. However, the Huskies never recovered from a 24-6 run by St. John’s in the first half to suffer another conference loss.
Despite being tied for the Big East lead with four wins over ranked teams, UConn is unranked and outside of the top 25 in the NCAA NET rankings. There is still a home game with Marquette but UConn fans might be a little nervous on Selection Sunday unless the Huskies make a deep run in the Big East tournament.
Per college basketball news, the Huskies are showing up as No. 8 or 9 seeds in March Madness bracketology projections with just four games left in the regular season.

Xavier has won four games in a row. However, all of those wins came after teams with losing records in conference play. A win over Creighton on Saturday could be huge as the Musketeers are just 1-8 in Quad 1 games and 52nd in the NCAA NET rankings.
Villanova is 13-3 at home and that includes victories over St. John’s, Marquette, UConn and Cincinnati. It is a different story on the road with a 3-7 record. Eric Dixon is the nation’s leading scorer and a popular target in the college basketball player prop bets. It is looking like he will need to add to his scoring totals in the NIT instead of the NCAA tournament.
St, John’s Eyes High Seed in March Madness
St. John’s has a two-game lead on Creighton with three left in the regular season, per NCAAB betting tips. The Red Storm figure to be the team to beat when the Big East tournament gets underway. Will the Red Storm earn a top 16 seed?
A 3-4 record in Quad 1 games has St. John’s at No. 18 in the NCAA NET rankings. Having just four games against ranked teams could factor into the March Madness seed for Rick Pitino’s squad. Sweeping the reigning national champion UConn Huskies should impress the Selection Committee. St. John’s is tied for the Big East lead by covering against the college basketball spread in 10 of its home games.

Marquette jumped back into the top 25 in the NCAA NET rankings after rolling past Providence. Games against UConn and St. John’s could help the Golden Eagles remain in the top 25.
A 3-4 record against ranked teams is an issue for Creighton with three Quad 2 losses resulting in Creighton being 34th in the NCAA NET rankings. The Bluejays don’t play a team in the top 50 in their final four games in the regular season.
Injury Bursting Georgetown’s Bubble
Georgetown is the best of the rest. Losing star freshman Thomas Sorber to a season-ending foot injury will make it hard for the Hoyas to make much noise in the Big East tournament. It will take an improbable run in the Big East tournament for any of the teams in the bottom half of the conference standings to receive a bid into the March Madness bracket.
The NCAAB betting lines have Georgetown listed as a double-digit underdog for the seventh time in the last eight meetings with UConn. These are certainly not the Patrick Ewing or Alonzo Mourning-led Hoyas.
