Big East NCAAB Prediction and Odds: Bet Over in Georgetown vs Villanova

What a week it was in the Big East with the only two teams in the conference in the top 25 in The Associated Press poll losing at home on Saturday. There are no teams left with perfect conference records after the losses by UConn and Marquette.

Longtime rivals Georgetown and Villanova will meet in the only Big East game on Monday with Villanova looking to improve on a 6-4 record against the college basketball spread as a home favorite this season.

Let’s check out my best college basketball picks this week for the Big East.

Top 3 Weekly NCAAB Predictions for Big East

1. Take Georgetown-Villanova Game To Land Over

The most memorable matchup between Georgetown and Villanova came in the 1985 NCAA Division I tournament championship game, with the Wildcats winning 66-64 in one of the biggest upsets in college basketball history.

Look for more offense when the teams get together on Monday, but maybe not too much in the way of an offensive showcase.

Per Georgeton vs Villanova stats, the Wildcats are tied for the Big East lead with 13 games landing over the total. Just three of the first 11 home games for Villanova went under the total. Each of Georgetown’s five road games landed under the total.

This is an intriguing matchup with Villanova, led by national scoring leader Eric Dixon, is ranked ninth in offensive efficiency by the Pomeroy basketball database with Georgetown coming in at No. 27 in defensive efficiency.

Keep on eye on the college basketball injury report since Georgetown was without freshman star and leading scorer Thomas Sorber and guard Jayden Epps, who leads the Hoyas with 31 3-pointers, in the last game.

The total is set at 136½ so take this Big East matchup to land over in your online bets.

2. Game of the Week: UConn at Xavier

If UConn isn’t careful, the two-time defending national champions could slip out of the top 25 in the national polls. The Huskies saw their 28-game home winning streak come to an end in the most recent Big East Game of the Week as Creighton came away with a hard-earned win.

When UConn welcomed Xavier to town in December, the Huskies were lucky to escape with the overtime win against a Musketeers team playing without star forward Zach Freemantle.

Freemantle is back while UConn continues to play without star freshman Liam McNeeley. Making matters worse, senior forward Alex Karaban injured his ankle late in the loss to Creighton.

UConn has won four consecutive games against Xavier but just one of those victories came on the road. Make sure to check out the Saturday night matchup in Cincinnati as it could be something special.

When looking at the college basketball futures odds, UConn leads all Big East teams with +1400 odds of winning the national championship followed by Marquette at +4000 and St. John’s at +5000.

3. Villanova’s Eric Dixon A Top Player Prop Option

Eric Dixon is in the midst of a brilliant season that could land him Big East Player of the Year honors. He is leading all Division I men’s basketball players with an average of 24.7 points per game, 10 more than any of his Villanova teammates.

If the Wildcats want to be a factor in the Big East race, more will be needed from his teammates. Dixon’s run of games with at least two assists came to an end during Friday’s win over Providence.

When making Jan. 20 college basketball picks, the +138 odds for Dixon to have at least three assists is a good way to go.
