Breaking Down the 2025 Sweet 16 Locations and Host Cities

The March Madness bracket will be getting underway before you know it. It has been a wild season, with many of the betting favorites falling out of the top 25 in the national polls at some point.

UConn is the two-time defending national champion. The Huskies lost nine games during the regular season. However, they are also 5-2 against ranked teams. More than 20 teams have shorter odds of winning the national title than UConn.

Auburn and Duke have been battling it out to be the favorites in the March Madness bracket.

Brackets can be busted in a heartbeat. Virginia’s loss to UMBC in 2018 and Fairleigh Dickinson’s win over Purdue in 2023 are among the biggest March Madness upsets.

California, Georgia, Indiana and New Jersey To Host Sweet 16 Games

There is nothing quite like March Madness. Championship dreams can live and die in a span of 40 minutes as Cinderella teams steal the spotlight and send title contenders home.

The field of 68 is sure to have plenty of surprises once the March Madness tournament gets underway on March 18. The heartstopping action in the conference tournaments will set the stage for the March Madness bracket. There will be plenty of March Madness games that will defy the betting odds.

Many stars in the March Madness bracket will hear their names called in the 2025 NBA Draft. Patrick Ewing, Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, and Magic Johnson are among the NBA players who won the NCAA championship. UConn teammates Stephon Castle and Donovan Clingan were first-round picks as the Huskies won back-to-back titles.

Where Are the 2025 Regionals Being Played?

When looking at the March Madness locations, the East Regional will be played on Mar. 27 and 29 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

State Farm Arena in Atlanta, better known for hosting high-profile college football games, will be the site of the South Regional. The Sweet 16 games are set for Mar. 28, with the Elite Eight matchup on Mar. 30.

Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis will welcome the four remaining teams from the South Regional with games on Mar. 28 and 30.

Chase Center in San Francisco will be the host site for the West Regional on March 27 and 29.

The March Madness tournament begins with the First Four games in Dayton on March 18 and 19, reducing the field to 64. What’s next will be the 32 March Madness first-round games.

There will be first and second-round games from Mar. 20-23 in eight predetermined sites.

The four regional champions advance to the Final Four. The big winner in the NCAA tournament locations is the home of the Alamo. The national semifinals are set for Apr. 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, with the national championship game on Apr. 7.

 

How Are Regional Sites Determined?

Cities bid to host the regionals. The NCAA prefers to have a site in each area of the country. The top seeds tend to be placed in the closest region.

In the 2024 NCAA tournament, UConn won the regional at TD Garden in Boston, winning each of its four games by more than 15 points.

The South Regional was held in Dallas. No. 11 seed North Carolina State upset No. 6 Texas Tech, No. 2 Marquette, and No. 4 Duke to reach the Final Four.

The only regional in which the No. 1 and 2 seeds advanced to the Elite Eight was the Midwest Regional in Detroit, where top-seeded Purdue defeated Tennessee.

Los Angeles was the host city for the West Regional, and fourth-seeded Alabama beat top-seeded North Carolina in the Sweet 16 before taking down Clemson in the Elite Eight.

 

Who Gets To Play in the NCAA Tournament?

The conference tournament winners earn automatic bids into the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament. The NCAA Selection Committee will determine the teams receiving at-large bids.

In the 2024 March Madness bracket, there were 22 one-bid conferences. The SEC and the Big 12 led the way with eight teams in the field of 68.
