Kansas, Houston Square off Ahead of March Madness Betting

With March Madness odds quickly falling into place, a phrase comes to mind to describe the current state of the Big 12: wild and wonderful. The same words can be seen as you enter the state of West Virginia.

While the Mountaineers are far from being Big 12 contenders, the state’s motto rings true for a conference that looks to be the best in college basketball. The Big 12 leads all conferences with eight teams ranked inside the top 25. In other words, only six teams in the Big 12 are unranked putting more than half of its members in the AP Poll.

No. 8 Kansas sustained another loss against No. 12 Iowa State who has emerged as a serious threat to win the Big 12. The defeat only dropped the Jayhawks one spot in the rankings, but the Cyclones surged 11 spots.

Iowa State has had a week to prepare for the team’s Saturday, Feb. 3 showdown against No. 18 Baylor. Two of the Cyclones’ last three wins have come against ranked opponents with the team also notching a victory against No. 25 TCU.

Iowa State sits at 16-4 and has been equally impressive at our sportsbook. The Cyclones are 13-7 against the spread (ATS) this season. If you are a fan of betting (or fading) the trends in our college basketball odds, the team’s last four games have gone over the point total.

Baylor is coming off a comeback victory at UCF. The Bears were able to overcome both a hot shooting night from the Knights as well as a slow offensive start to catch fire late. Like Iowa State, Baylor has rewarded bettors going 12-7 ATS.

There may not be football on Saturday, Feb. 3 but there is plenty of college hoops to keep you warm. No game is bigger than Kansas taking on No. 4 Houston in a potential preview of the conference title matchup.

Kansas’ image has taken a hit with some of the recent losses. Yet, this is still one of the top teams in the conference thanks to Hunter Dickinson.

The Jayhawks’ status as the class of the Big 12 will be put to the test against Houston. There was some reasonable skepticism about how the Cougars would fare given the jump up in competition from the AAC to the Big 12.

Houston does not have a problem cruising to a 19-2 record to start the season. The Cougars are 11-9-1 against the spread, covering in three of the team’s last five games. Despite the nation’s best defense, the over has cashed in three of these matchups as well.

How will Dickinson perform against Houston’s suffocating defense? The Jayhawks have struggled in the college basketball odds going 9-11-1 ATS this season. The over has hit in three of the team’s last five outings.
