Well, lucky you, I’m here to help ease your way into the wonderful world of trying to make bank wagering on college basketball games with my very own March Madness betting guide.

From simple betting tips, to best bets to look for, what to avoid and, of course, how not to lose your head if your bracket goes atomic after day one, I got you covered.

So, without further ado, as the initial March Madness odds start popping out left and right, let’s dive right into the action.

How to Bet on March Madness Action

When it comes to betting on March Madness action, there are a few simple steps to follow to get your feet wet.

• Finding An Online Sportsbook That Fits Your Needs

As simply put as possible, considering you’re putting some of your hard-earned money on the line picking March Madness winners, you should strive to find the best online sportsbook to suit your needs.

Look for the one with the best reputation, best payout politics, best promotions, best customer service, of course best odds both for the game and tournament, and, above all, where you feel you’ll have the best chances to win.

Not to be that guy, but, clearly being that guy, going with BetUS sportsbook feels like the best fit.

Once that’s done, then you can move on to the next step – actually betting on the tournament.

• Picking Which Bets are Best for You

Betting on March Madness, just like wagering on NBA action or any other basketball league or tournament, offers bettors a very straight forward array of options.

To begin, there’s the moneyline option, where you bet on either team A or team B to win the game straight up.

There’s not much science to it.

There’s a favorite and an underdog.

The favorite typically has the better odds to win, but the underdog offers the best payout for said win.

From there on, all you can do is just make sure your betting pick is the right one.

Next up is point spread betting or ATS betting. Here you can either pick the favorite or the underdog in the matchup. For example, if Team A is the favorite, it must win by more than the point margin put up by the sportsbook for the game. Or, you can take the underdog, hoping that it either wins the game outright or manages to lose by not less than the online point margin.

Say you have a bet that features Duke (-3) vs. North Carolina (+3). If you take Duke, the favorite to win, it would have to beat UNC by more than three points to cover the spread. On the other hand, if you take Carolina, it would have to win the game outright or lose by two points or fewer for you to cash your bet. A three-point margin is a push.

You can also bet on the game’s point total, where you have a 50% chance of winning. The act is simple here. You either bet on the game going over or under the designated point total set by your sportsbook. If the total is listed at 150 points and you bet the over, the teams must combine for more than 150.

Lastly, you can always go down the route of prop betting. Here you are wagering on specific scenarios, be it for player performances, team performances or basically any number of wagers that offer betting lines on your sportsbook.

You think a player will have more or less than X amount of points or rebounds? There’s probably a prop bet for it.

You think floor cleaners will go into the game more or less than 15 times during the event? There’s probably a prop bet for it as well.

In prop betting, limits are almost non-existent, meaning that the chances of winning continuously grow.

• Betting a March Madness Bracket

Now, if you’re really into the true madness that goes on during the college basketball tournament, then diving head first into a bracket challenge might just be your cup of tea.

Starting out with the 64 teams that take part in the tournament from the first round moving forward, online betting fanatics will get a shot at picking a winner of the 63 games on the slot and gain points for every correct pick. As every round progresses, so does the amount of points earned per win.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a college basketball savant or just somebody looking to have some fun and trying to make an extra buck here and there. If you have the time, patience and, above all, level of stress management skills to withstand the madness that comes from the tournament, betting on brackets might be your game.

Now, when betting on brackets, looking back at which bets are best for you can usually give you an edge to win.

Keeping a close eye on matchup point spreads, and team’s prior performances from a betting point of view could be your hack to scoring the wins you need to beat any and all bracket challenges.

Lastly, if you’re looking for an enticing bracket challenge to let some money ride on, take BetUS’ March Mania challenge for example. In it you can win up to $1,000,000 trying to land the perfect bracket.

But if you’re not into going through the peril of picking in the whole tournament, you can also slide right into the 16- or eight-team contests where by picking all correct winners, players can win up to $10,000.

• Make a Betting Budget

I don’t want to sound like a Debby Downer kind of person here, but believe me, betting is way better when you make a budget, and repeat after me: YOU STICK TO IT!

Yes, the opportunities to make money betting on March Madness winners can be rather large, but that doesn’t mean for one second that you should bet more than you can allow yourself, especially considering you might end up losing a cool chunk of change before making any real money.

Once you learn what your preferred style of betting is, as previously mentioned, that’s when you continuously make your budget. As a great rule of thumb, don’t go over 10% of your budget on each pick.

Staying around a 1 to 5% budget margin can offer you enough money and wiggle room to make it all worthwhile.

• Do Your Research

Considering there are 67 games in the tournament, making sure you do some thorough research on every team playing, every matchup and every potential betting option is essential.

The best bettors can usually give you an expert read on every team and player that piques their interest.

Even if betting is a thing of luck, knowledge is always welcome and could lead you to finding the best options for your needs.

Above Everything Else, Remember to Have Fun

I don’t see why this should be reminded to online sports betting fans, but yet here we are. Betting on sporting events, like March Madness should be a fun hobby to pursue. One that could lead you to making a few extra bucks here and there.

While I understand that the thrills of starting to see money come in here and there can push people to continuously want more, it could all backfire really fast.

With betting on something like March Madness picks, at the end of the day there isn’t much left besides letting your money run and shooting a prayer that everything ends up well.

You might win some, you might lose some. That, at the end of the day, is the biggest truth to all March Madness bets.

So, in all honesty, if you’re one of those hot-headed fans that can’t take the heat from losing, instead of just taking the event and its subsequent betting opportunities for what they are – a fun hobby to pursue – then don’t do it.

Peace of mind is a way better prize than losing your mind over trying to win a couple of bucks here and there on some college kids playing ball.

Now, if you’re not one of those people, just follow my advice, head on over to BetUS Sportsbook and have some fun.
