Top Seeds

WEST

The overall No. 1 seed, Gonzaga will play in Portland, Oregon, in the first and second round.

It is the Bulldogs’ fifth No. 1 seed and they will open against Georgia State.

SOUTH

Arizona is the No. 1 seed in the South. The Wildcats will face the winner of Wright State and Bryant, a First Four game on Tuesday.

Arizona is the Pac-12 regular-season and tournament champion, defeating UCLA on Saturday. Arizona has won six in a row and is 31-3 overall.

Interesting factoid from ESPN Stats & Info: Tommy Lloyd is the third head coach to be a No. 11 seed in his first season as a D-I head coach, joining Bill Hodges (1979 for Indiana State) and Bill Guthridge (1998 for UNC). He’ll be only the sixth coach to earn a No. 1 seed in his first season as head coach at a program.

MIDWEST

Kansas has 32 straight NCAA Tournament appearances and will play either Texas Southern or Texas A&M-Corpus Christi as the Jayhawks’ first opponent.

That game will take place Thursday in Fort Worth, Tx.

Kansas was 28-6 in overall and captured the Big 12 postseason tournament. The Jayhawks have won five in a row, with four of the losses coming in road games.

EAST

Baylor, the defending NCAA champion, is the No. 1 seed in the East. The Bears, co-champions of the regular season Big 12, will meet MEAC champion Norfolk State on Thursday.

The Bears are 26-6 overall but are coming off a loss in the Big 12 postseason tournament.
