NCAAB Big 12 Odds: Houston Soaring, Kansas Fading

There are four games scheduled for the final day of 2024 with BYU listed by the college basketball spread as a double-digit favorite against visiting Arizona State in the final Big 12 game of 2024.

The Big 12 teams return to the court on Friday with the most appealing game likely being the showdown between Baylor and Iowa State.

No. 3 Iowa State and No. 7 Kansas lead the way among the Big 12 teams in the latest Associated Press poll. No. 14 Houston, No. 16 Cincinnati and No. 25 Baylor are also in the top 25.

When looking at the college basketball future odds, Houston has the shortest odds at +1200 of winning the national title among Big 12 teams. Iowa State and Kansas aren’t far behind at +1800 followed by Arizona and Baylor priced at +6000 to win the national championship.

1. Iowa State, Houston Eyeing an Encore

The 2023-24 Big 12 season ended with Houston and Iowa State meeting in the conference tournament final. The college basketball odds are favoring a rematch.

Even though Houston has lost both of its games against ranked teams, the Cougars are at +150 in the odds of winning the Big 12 title after opening the season as the No. 2 favorite at +250.

The Cougars held Oklahoma State to 18 points in the first half en route to winning their conference opener. They won’t play a ranked team until a Jan. 25 meeting with Kansas.

Speaking of Kansas, the Jayhawks were priced at +220 in the Big 12 championship odds when the season began. Kansas was sitting atop the national polls before dropping back-to-back games to Creighton and Missouri. The Jayhawks are now at +475 in the Big 12 odds.

Iowa State has made quite the statement with wins over Marquette and Iowa while the only blemish came at the Maui Invitational to Auburn.

When looking at the college basketball lines, Iowa State’s odds of winning the Big 12 have moved from +350 to +205.

2. Can Baylor Be a Factor in Big 12 Race?

Baylor leads all Big 12 teams with five games against ranked opponents this season. However, the Bears dropped three of those games. The season began with a 38-point loss to Gonzaga.

It hasn’t helped that only five players have appeared in all 11 games for the Bears.

The NCAAB odds have the Bears at +1200 in the Big 12 championship odds. When healthy, Baylor is a team to keep an eye on.

Texas Tech and Cincinnati were sixth and seventh in the Big 12 title odds pecking order at the start of the season.

Texas Tech’s odds have moved from +2000 to +1400 as the Red Raiders have shorter odds than Arizona. Cincinnati is now at +2000 to win the Big 12.

3. What About the Arizona Wildcats?

Conference newcomer Arizona State won the Big 12 football championship to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff field. Will it be more of the same during the basketball season?

Arizona was a perennial title contender during its time in the Pac-12. Arizona had to work for a win against TCU in its Big 12 opener. With five losses in the first 12 games, the Wildcats saw their Big 12 title odds go from +800 to +1800.

When looking at the college basketball futures odds, Arizona guard Caleb Love was one of the national player of the year contenders.

Cincinnati (+2000) and BYU (+3000) are other teams to watch in the Big 12 race.
