The biggest question surrounding the Big Ten is whether No. 3 Purdue will be the only conference team to make an appearance in the Top 25 in the national polls next week.
No. 18 Wisconsin is reeling without leading scorer Tyler Wahl while Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Illinois, Rutgers, and Ohio State were relegated to “other teams receiving votes” in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.
Purdue and Michigan State are currently tied atop the Big Ten standings and will meet on Monday.
According to the college basketball playoff odds, Purdue (+1400) is tied for the fourth-best odds to win the national title followed by Ohio State (+3300) while Illinois and Indiana are both priced at +4000 in the title odds.

A pair of teams in need of a win are set to square off.
Wisconsin (11-4, 3-2 in the Big Ten) has dropped two games in a row while Indiana (10-6, 1-4) takes a three-game losing streak into the game.
Wisconsin’s Tyler Wahl was injured in a Jan. 3 win over Minnesota and has missed the last two games so his absence has been felt. It is uncertain if he will be back for this matchup. The other Badgers need to step it up without the go-to player.
Wisconsin coach Greg Gard believes Tyler Wahl’s injury has allowed players such as Markus Ilver, Chris Hodges and Carter Gilmore to grow and improve. https://t.co/R9vWVQViCQ

Other Games to Watch
Minnesota vs Ohio State
- Date, time (TV): Thursday, Jan. 12, 6:30 p.m ET (FS1)
Minnesota (6-8, 0-4) is the only team yet to win in the Big Ten this season. It won’t be easy to change that with a trip to face an Ohio State team eager to snap a two-game losing streak.
Dawson Garcia, playing for his third team in the last three seasons, has scored in double figures in each of the last six games for Minnesota.
Ohio State (10-5, 2-2) led Purdue with 30 seconds left before a turnover led to a go-ahead 3-pointer by the Boilermakers’ Fletcher Loyer.
Freshman Brice Sensabaugh leads Ohio State in scoring, averaging 16.7 points.
Ohio State goes on the road to face Rutgers on Sunday. Rutgers is 12-5 against the college basketball lines, the best mark in the Big Ten while 10 of Ohio State’s 15 games have gone over the total and that is second only to Indiana among Big Ten teams.
Michigan vs Iowa
- Date, time (TV): Thursday, Jan. 12, 7:00 p.m ET (ESPN2)
Just when it looked like Michigan was starting to figure things out, the Wolverines dropped a six-point decision to Michigan State. Michigan (9-6, 3-1) shot its way out of that game, missing 17-of-20 3-point attempts. Hunter Dickinson is averaging 22.3 points over his last three games.
Iowa is coming off back-to-back losses against Indiana and Rutgers. Kris Murray had 30 points in the upset against the Hoosiers for Iowa (10-6, 2-3). The Hawkeyes remain at home for Sunday’s matchup with Maryland.
It doesn’t get much easier for Michigan as the 12-4 Northwestern team comes to Ann Arbor on Sunday. The Wildcats are coming off a losing season and thriving even with last year’s leading scorer Pete Nance now at North Carolina.
Nebraska vs Purdue
- Date, time (TV): Friday, Jan. 13, 7:00 p.m ET (Big Ten Network)
When the teams met in December, Nebraska nearly pulled off a huge upset, holding Purdue without a basket for the final 5½ minutes before falling in overtime.
Purdue (15-1, 4-1) figures to be more dialed in when the teams meet again as the Boilermakers look to remain atop the Big Ten standings.
The sportsbook lists Purdue’s Zach Edey (-200) as the national player of the year front-runner. Edey is coming off a 30-point, 13-rebound effort in a road win against Penn State for Purdue while Derrick Walker leads Nebraska (9-8 2-4) with an average of 13.7 points per game. Edey had 17 rebounds but was limited to 11 points in the first matchup with Nebraska. Walker finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds in the game.
With a big game coming up on Monday against Michigan State, the Boilermakers will need to take care of business. Purdue has won five of the last six games against Michigan State. However, the Spartans have covered this in each of the last two meetings.
Michigan State vs Illinois
- Date, time (TV): Friday, Jan. 13, 9:00 p.m ET (FS1)
Illinois goes after its third win in a row against Michigan State after the Spartans won five of the previous six games. Each of the last four meetings were decided by single digits.
Michigan State (12-4, 4-1) looks to remain tied for first in the BigTen. However, Illinois is 8-1 at home this season.
Terrence Shannon Jr. is coming off a 25-point game in a win over Nebraska while Joey Hauser returned home to Wisconsin and had 20 points in Michigan State’s win at Wisconsin.
