Southeastern Conference Weekend Preview

Each of the three ranked teams in the Southeastern Conference will be playing at home on Saturday. By the way, No. 1 Auburn, No. 5 Kentucky and No.. 19 Tennessee happen to be a combined 38-0 at home this season.

Auburn (-1600) is pulling away from the field in the odds to win the SEC title. Preseason favorite Kentucky (+1500), LSU (+2500) and Tennessee (+3500) are the closest competitors.

Auburn and Kentucky are tied for the third-best odds at +800 to win the national title.

Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe (+350) continues to set the pace in the odds to win the national player of the year award. Jabari Smith of Auburn is next among SEC players at +2500.

Here’s a look at this weekend’s games in the SEC with some information for those who bet online.

Texas A&M Aggies at Auburn Tigers

Texas A&M has won five of the last six meetings with Auburn and covered against the college basketball spreads in all of the victories.

The Aggies have won the last six games in the series played at Auburn.

Three of the last four games in the series have been decided by three points or less with three of the last four contest going over the total.

Texas A&M (15-9, 4-7 in the SEC) has lost its last seven games, with three of those losses coming on the road as the Aggies fell into a tie for 10th place in the SEC. The Aggies’ last six games all finished over the total.

Auburn (22-2, 10-1) played with fire a couple of times after ascending to the top spot in the Associated Press poll, topping Missouri by one point and Georgia by two. The Tigers finally got burned with a four-point overtime loss at Arkansas. It was the third straight road game when the Tigers failed to cover.

Auburn is undefeated at home and has covered in each of its last seven games at home. The Tigers are second in the SEC in rebounding while Texas A&M is second in the conference with 10.7 steals per game.

Arkansas Razorbacks at Alabama Crimson Tide

Arkansas has the longest active winning streak in the SEC after its overtime victory against No. 1 Auburn. The Razorbacks have covered in each of the last five games.

Arkansas (19-5, 8-3) has won seven of the last eight matchups against Alabama, although the lone loss during that stretch came the last time the teams met in Tuscaloosa. Arkansas had won three straight road games in the series before getting blown out by Alabama 90-59 last season. However, those three victories came by a total of eight points.

Three of the last four Arkansas games have gone over the total.

Alabama (15-9, 5-6) has covered in just two of its last 10 games. The Crimson Tide snapped a two-game losing streak with a 14-point win at Ole Miss.

Arkansas leads the SEC with an average of 17.1 free throws per game while Alabama is the conference leader with 9.3 3-pointers per game.

South Carolina Gamecocks at Georgia Bulldogs

South Carolina will be looking to defeat Georgia for the 12th time in a row. The Gamecocks have also covered in eight of the last nine meetings. The average margin of victory in the last three matchups has been 20.7 points.

The last time Georgia won at home in the series came in 2016.

South Carolina (13-10, 4-7) has lost its last three games while each of the last four contests have gone over the total.

Georgia (6-18, 1-10) has lost 12 of its last 13 games, although the Bulldogs have covered in four of the last five.

Georgia is 9 for 39 from 3-point range in its last two games while the Gamecocks are 10 of 39 in its last two contests.

Florida Gators at Kentucky Wildcats

Florida’s four-point win at Kentucky in 2021 when listed by the Las Vegas odds as a two-point underdog snapped a five-game losing streak to the Wildcats. The Gators haven’t won back-to-back games against Kentucky since 2018.

Four of the last five games between the Gators and Wildcats have been decided by single figures. Four of the last five meeting also went under the total.

Florida (16-8, 6-5) has won four games in a row, all when listed by the Las Vegas odds as the favorite, but failed to cover in each of the last three. The last three contests all went under the total.

Kentucky (20-4, 9-2) has won five games in a row and nine of the last 10, although the Wildcats are only 4-6 against the spread in those games.

Four of Kentucky’s last six games have gone over the total.

Florida is second in the SEC with 5.7 blocked shots per game while Kentucky is the conference leader with 41.2 rebounds per contest.

Vanderbilt Commodores at Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee has defeated Vanderbilt nine consecutive times and covered against the spread in four of the last five.

Five of the last six games in the series have gone under the total while Vanderbilt’s last win at Tennessee came in 2017.

Vanderbilt (13-10, 5-6) has won back-to-back games for the first time since victories against Brigham Young and Arkansas on Dec. 23 and Jan. 4. The Commodores have covered in each of the last three games and their last four all finished over the total.

Tennessee (17-6, 8-3) has won six of its last seven games and is one of three SEC teams still undefeated at home. The Volunteers have covered in five of their last seven games.

Tennessee is coming off a game when it was 14 of 27 from 3-point range. Vanderbilt has limited its last two opponents to 21 percent on 3-pointers.

Mississippi State Bulldogs at LSU Tigers

Louisiana State has won the last three games in the series, although the first two matchups were decided by a total of five points. Mississippi State’s last road win in the series came in 2017.

Mississippi State (14-9, 5-5) has lost four of its last five games and failed to cover in three of its last four. The Bulldogs are 0-6 on the road in 2022.

LSU (17-7, 5-6) has covered in just one of its last six games and is 2-6 in its last eight games. Each of the last five LSU games have gone over the total.

LSU leads the SEC with 11.1 steals and 15 turnovers committed per contest. Mississippi State has attempted 24 more free throws than its opponents in the last three games.

Ole Miss Rebels at Missouri Tigers

Date, time, TV: Saturday, 8:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network

Ole Miss has won three of the last four meetings with Missouri and has won six of the last seven games played at Mizzou. The Rebels are 6-2 against the spread in the last eight games in the series.

The last two games in the series have gone under the total after the previous six all finished over the total.

Ole Miss (12-12, 3-8) has covered in three of its last four games while four of the last six games have gone under the total.

Missouri (9-14, 3-7) lost five of its last six games but has covered in six of the last eight.

Don’t expect an offensive showcase as the teams rank 13th and 14th in the 14-team SEC.
