Longhorns Aim to Stay One Game Behind Kansas
TCU Could Be Shorthanded for Rematch
Neither Texas nor Texas Christian is headed into Wednesday night’s matchup loaded with confidence.
The Longhorns lost control of the Big 12 race thanks to a loss to Baylor the last time out. Now Texas needs to win to have a chance to be co-champions with a win over Kansas in the regular-season finale. It is even more troubling that the Longhorns needed overtime to beat a mediocre Oklahoma team at home.

TCU has dropped three of the last five and if not for two late free throws in the last game against Texas Tech, it would be four losses in the last five games.
Twelve of TCU’s 19 games have come at home. Texas is just 4-5 on the road.
Center Eddie Lampkin missed the last game and guard Rondel Walker has sat out the last four games for TCU. Both are questionable so depth could be an issue for the Horned Frogs. Souleymane Doumbia is also questionable. However, he has only played at least 10 minutes twice this season.
All the main rotation players for Texas look good to go.
Texas went up one spot to No. 7 in the coaches poll and went from seventh to ninth in the Associated Press poll. TCU moved up two positions in the Associated Press rankings and four spots in the coaches’ poll to come in at No. 20 in both national polls.
According to the college basketball odds, Texas (+2500) is 11th in the odds to win the national championship. TCU (+3000) is tied for 12th.
Texas is 10th and TCU 22nd in the NCAA NET rankings. The big difference between the teams is that Texas is 10-7 in Quad 1 games while TCU has a 6-9 mark in those matchups.

Looking to Get Going
Much like the Texas team, it has been a bit of a grind recently for senior forward Timmy Allen.
He has been held in single figures in shot attempts in three of the last four games. That includes an 0-for-4 performance in a loss at Texas Tech. Allen shot 63% from the field the last time out against Baylor. However, he attempted only eight shots and that was a key part of the nine-point loss.
Allen has struggled at times on the road this season. He is averaging 12 points per game and shooting 53% in home games. On the road, he is putting up just 8.7 points while making only 39% from the field.
Allen did have 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting the last time that Texas played at TCU. Dylan Disu had scored fewer than 10 points in six of the last eight games before going off for a season-high 24 points the last time out for the Longhorns.

Miles is Back
Texas Christian lost four of five games when leading scorer Mike Miles was sidelined.
In the three games since Miles returned, the Horned Frogs are 2-1. He was a bit quiet in his first two games back with 28 points on 8-of-22 shooting.
Miles looked like he was all the way back when he posted his eighth 20-point game of the season with 23 points in a one-point win over Texas Tech. He had nine points in the last 13:06 as the Horned Frogs picked up a much-needed win.
Miles had 16 points in the first meeting with Texas and will look to top that mark in the rematch. He averaged 14.7 points in three meetings with the Longhorns last season.
Texas Christian has covered against the Las Vegas odds in two of the last seven games.

Texas vs Texas Christian Picks and Prediction
The Big 12 tournament is just around the corner so both teams, who are headed to the NCAA Tournament, want to kick things into high gear. The line opened with TCU favored by one point and has moved to 2½.
Texas and TCU rank first and second in the Big 12 in scoring margin.
Don’t look for much in the way of 3-pointers for the Horned Frogs as Texas Christian has made and attempted the fewest 3-pointers in the conference.
The teams have committed the fewest turnovers in the Big 12 so there probably won’t be much in the way of transition offense for either team.
The Horned Frogs are 14-4 when listed by the sportsbook as the favorite. Texas is 1-4 as the underdogs.
TCU is 9-6-1 against the spread at home with Texas covering in only three of nine road games.
