Weekend Wrap-Up: Houston & Florida for Men’s NCAAB Title, Verstappen Wins in Japan & More
March Madness Has Come to an End, Lakers Thrash Thunder in OKC, Verstappen Wins in Japan, & More
It’ll Be Houston vs. Florida for the Men’s National Title
If by any chance you weren’t glued to your seat this weekend for the Men’s Final Four games pitting Florida vs. Auburn and Houston vs. Duke, let me be the first to tell you, you missed out on a couple of instant college basketball classics.
First up in the fray, the Florida Gators, led by a massive 34-point performance from Walter Clayton Jr, took down the NCAAB betting odds favorite Auburn Tigers by 79-73, leaving the favored Tigers to finally put the lid on one of the most dominant seasons in school history.

Next up in line, Duke, led by superstar freshman Cooper Flagg, who most NBA rumors sites are already pitting in different draft day scenarios, saw their title-contention plans come to a scratching halt, following one of the most impressive final-minute comebacks from the Houston Cougars to win the game 70-67.

Sadly for the Blue Devils, who most college basketball news sites had as favorites to win the title, not even Flagg’s dominant 27 point performance could stop Houston grit and will, with the last two minutes of the game most likely going down in history as one of those “you had to see it” moments.
As the Gators and Cougars get ready for one last dance to close out March Madness tonight, with Florida as one-point favorites according to BetUS Sportsbook, who do you got winning the title?
Huskies Thrash Gamecocks for Women’s NCAAB Title
Not to be outdone by the upcoming Men’s National Title Game tonight, Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies were once again crowned as college basketball’s women’s national title winners following an 82-59 stomping over the South Carolina Gamecocks yesterday.

With players Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd both putting up 24 points and team star Paige Bueckers delivering 17 points of her own, the Huskies took to dominating the national title game from start to end, not allowing Dawn Staley’s team any time to even break in their sneakers on the court.
Yesterday’s title win brings UConn’s championship wins to twelve, with this being their first win since the 2016 season.

In short, may you remember, and most importantly, never forget, when you speak about women’s college basketball royalty, the conversation will always start with UConn.
Lakers Squash Thunder in OKC
With just a handful of NBA games before the regular season comes to an end, out in Oklahoma, the Thunder, aka the best team in the league, was handed one of their worst losses of the season from Luka Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Putting up a franchise-record tying 15 threes in the first half of the game, the Lakers looked like a point-scoring machine, with everybody, including Bronny James hitting a three in the last minute of the game.

Yes, if you look up Bronny James’ stats from last night’s game, you’ll notice his enormous three point contribution for the dub. Can anybody say “Rookie of the Year”?
No? Ok, moving on.
I guess there’s only one thing left to wonder here: Can LeBron, Luka, and the Lakers make a deep playoff run this season?
At least we already know Shannon Sharpe’s thoughts on the matter.

What would our world be without Shannon’s “Lakers in five”?
All Hail New NHL Goal Leader Alex Ovechkin
One of the biggest thrills in all of sports is when records that have seemed impossible to break are finally broken.
Take LeBron breaking the record for most points scored in NBA history, for example. Even if you don’t like James, you can’t help but feel good for the man.
This Sunday, the NHL saw one of its biggest records be beaten, as Alex Ovechkin cemented his legacy as the player with the most goals scored in league history, passing hockey GOAT Wayne Gretzky by one goal, leaving the count 895 to 894.

Even if the goal was part of a 4-1 loss against the New York Islanders, Ovechkin, a Washington Capitals living legend, brought the arena down with his power-play goal in the second period of Sunday’s game.
Now if you excuse me, I’ll be watching Ovechkin’s mic’d up clip from his record-breaking performance all day.

Verstappen Takes Japanese GP
It was only a matter of time until Max Verstappen, reigning and defending Formula 1 champion, scored his first win of the season. Well, this past Sunday, the Red Bull Racing phenom did just that, beating Mclaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri respectively to win the Japanese Grand Prix.

One More Lap Around The Block
Staying atop the latest MLB massive extension trend, the Toronto Blue Jays decided to join in on the fray, offering star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a 14-year, $500 million contract extension, basically linking Vlad Jr. for life with the team.

While Toronto was busy making sure Vlad Jr. got PAID! MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred finally decided to dish his two cents on the whole torpedo bat debate.
Calling said bats “absolutely good for baseball,” is it safe to assume the league’s hottest new commodity isn’t going anywhere?
