Arizona Goes for Road Sweep

The Arizona Wildcats have lost three games this season, and they avenged one of those setbacks by topping Washington State on the road on Thursday. The Cougars had won in Tucson, Az, earlier this month, but the Wildcats were able to pull out the win in the rematch.

They were a handful, so getting a road victory here is really meaningful,” Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd said after Thursday’s win. “There’s games like this that come down to matchups. So, I was really proud of our guys for getting off to a good start and then just kind of hanging with it.”

The Wildcats will try to sweep their two-game trip to the state of Washington against the Huskies on Saturday. Junior forward Azuolas Tubelis had 18 points and 12 rebounds in Thursday’s win, his third straight double-double. Tubelis is averaging 19.8 points and 9.6 rebounds to rank in the nation’s top 30 in each category.

Junior Oumar Ballo is a presence in the paint, averaging 15.4 points and 9.0 rebounds while shooting 63.5% from the floor. The 7-foot junior had a difficult outing on Thursday, managing just one point on 0-of-3 shooting, so look for him to try to make up for that with a big game in this one.

Washington Trying To Move Up

The Washington Huskies have some ground to make up in the Pac-12 standings after a 1-5 start in conference play, but they’ve won four of their last five and are within a game of the .500 mark in Pac-12 contests. Washington gave Arizona a game in their first meeting of the season, falling by just three points, and they’ll need that same kind of effort in this one.

Leading the charge in the first matchup was senior forward Keion Brooks, who had 16 points, nine rebounds and two steals. Brooks is leading the Huskies with 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, and he had 22 points in Thursday’s win over Arizona State.

Senior guard Cole Bajema is the only other double-digit scorer for the Huskies, averaging 10.1 points. He’s scored in double figures in each of the last two contests and has hit 6-of-13 from 3-point range over that span.

Senior guard PJ Fuller II had a solid all-around game against the Wildcats in the first meeting, finishing with nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. He also turned it over five times in the contest, however, so he’ll need to be better with the basketball in this one.

Arizona vs Washington Head-To-Head

The Arizona Wildcats are currently on a six-game winning streak against the Washington Huskies, including a three-point win at home on Jan. 5. Arizona has won its three games as the visitor against Washington, including a 92-68 blowout in February 2022.

The Wildcats have a winning record on the road against the Huskies, going 22-19 all-time. Looking at the college basketball lines for Saturday’s game, Arizona is the heavy favorite to keep that success going on the road against Washington.
