Auburn to Extend ATS Wednesday Woes of Va. Tech
After perusing the college basketball odds on Wednesday night, we found an inter-conference clash that caught our eye. Let’s break down this midweek battle between the Virginia Tech Hokies and Auburn Tigers in the ACC/SEC Challenge and keep cashing our college basketball picks.
A pair of streaks are on the line for the matchup. Virginia Tech is 0-9 against the spread in its last nine Wednesday games while Auburn is 5-0 on the moneyline in its last five at home.

Virginia Tech Smoked on Sunday
Virginia Tech was riding a four-game winning streak before the Hokies tipped off against No. 19 Florida Atlantic on Sunday and were obliterated by the Owls 84-50. The Hokies endured a horrendous night of shooting in which they went 2 of 17 from beyond the arc.
Junior Sean Pedulla and senior Hunter Cattoor led the team with a paltry 11 points apiece while Mekhi Long grabbed nine rebounds in the loss. The 50-point output was the lowest production of the season by the Hokies and dropped them to 5-2 on the season.
Auburn Continues to Roll
Auburn began its 2023-2024 campaign with an 88-82 loss to Baylor and failed to cover the college basketball odds as two-point road favorites. But since then, the Tigers have been unbeaten and their latest effort saw them throttle Alabama A&M 84-54, although they failed to cover as 33-point home chalk according to the best online sports betting sites.
The Tigers sprinted to a 49-15 lead at the half but then took their foot off the pedal, being outscored 39-35 by the Bulldogs in the second half. But that had more to do with getting the pine jockeys playing time than it did about a second-half malaise by the starters.
A total of 14 Tigers saw playing time in that blowout and junior guard Chaney Johnson came off the bench to lead the team with 15 points in last week’s victory.

Virginia Tech vs Auburn Best Bet
Virginia Tech just doesn’t have the offensive chops to hang with Auburn in this game. The Hokies average 76.9 points and 32.6 rebounds per game but, to put that in context, it places Virginia Tech 150th and 368th in those categories, respectively.

Auburn, on the other hand, has a clear offensive edge in this one, averaging 82.4 points (60th) and over 40 boards (65th) while allowing 66.4 points per game compared to Tech’s nearly 68 points per contest.
We should also note that the Tigers have had plenty of rest since their 30-point blowout over Alabama A&M last week while Virginia Tech was beaten by 34 points only three days ago. This has the feel of two teams competing at markedly different levels.
Auburn looks like a team that can hang with the big boys while Va. Tech is getting wrecked on the glass and has had a tough time hitting the long ball. If a team can’t rebound, they better be sharpshooters and the Hokies are far from that.
Auburn is one of the best college basketball bets on a full Wednesday night slate so don’t sweat it, just bet it – the Auburn Tigers.
