One of the most impressive teams in the early portion of the 2024-25 college basketball season has been the No. 2 Auburn Tigers, who are undefeated despite a gauntlet of a schedule. That tough slate continues on Wednesday night when the Tigers visit the No. 9 Duke Blue Devils in the finale of the SEC/ACC Men’s Challenge.

The college basketball lines have the Blue Devils as 2½-point favorites playing at home. The Tigers are getting +125 odds to pull the outright upset while Duke is -145 on the moneyline. The over/under for the contest has been set at 146½ points.

Despite already suffering two losses, Duke is the betting favorite to win the national title at +800 in NCAAB futures odds, though Auburn is right behind at +850. These two teams could certainly square off again in March or even April, so this will be a good test for both squads.

2 Auburn vs Duke Bets You Should Be Making

1. Auburn ML +125

As you might expect – or because of the hype, maybe you don’t – freshman Cooper Flagg hasn’t been the most consistent of players this season. Again, it shouldn’t be a surprise considering his 18th birthday isn’t until later this month, but many anointed him the best player in the country before he even played his first college game.

The lofty expectations are reflected in online betting with Flagg offering +400 odds to win the Wooden Award as college basketball’s top player.

It’s not that Flagg hasn’t been good – he’s averaging 15.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists to lead the Blue Devils in each category – but his consistency needs some work. In a three-point loss to Kansas last week, he finished with just 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in 38 minutes.

Flagg is going to be the focus of many defenses, and he needs to be able to rise to the occasion against the toughest opponents. Not to say he hasn’t done well against ranked opponents, going for 26 points against Kentucky and 24 in a win over Arizona, but to live up to all the expectations for himself and the Blue Devils, he must take over games at times.

He’ll be squaring off with the potential Player of the Year in the SEC in Auburn forward Johni Broome, who has been fantastic this season. The senior leads the country with 12.9 rebounds per game while also scoring at a 20.7-ppg clip.

Broome is also a force on the defensive end, ranking among the nation’s leaders with 3.1 blocks per game. The battle between Flagg and Broome – even if they’re not guarding each other – is going to tell the tale of this one.

For our best college basketball predictions, we like Broome to win the battle and the Tigers to win the game outright.

2. Auburn vs Duke Over 146½

Auburn and Duke are two of the more explosive offensive teams in college basketball. Per Auburn vs Duke betting trends, the Tigers are averaging 86.7 points and the Blue Devils 80.7. Both teams are also solid on the defensive end, though that isn’t going to be evident on Wednesday night.

The gravity of this game, between two Top 10 teams trying to establish themselves against the other, is going to lead to some intense play. There’s just too much offensive talent on both squads to expect this to be a low-scoring affair.

While Broome is the dominant offensive player for the Tigers, they do have four other double-digit scorers, led by guard Chad Baker-Mazara, who is averaging 12.6 points and shooting 44.8% from 3-point range. Guards Denver Jones (11.1 points) and Miles Kelly (10.0) also benefit from the defensive attention paid to Broome to get open looks on the perimeter.

Another freshman,  Kon Knueppel, is an option for player prop picks. He is thriving for the Blue Devils early this season, averaging 13.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists. Junior guard Tyrese Proctor is also a top scorer for Duke, averaging 12.4 points while hitting 46.9% of his 3-point attempts.

The stats show that this game should hit the over for NCAAB expert picks, with both teams able to score from inside and out throughout the contest.
