Baylor vs Mississippi State March Madness Odds

Baylor came into the season in the top 10 in the March Madness odds but something seemed to be amiss with the Bears dating back to a 38-point loss to Gonzaga in the season opener. Will the Bears find their game in the NCAA Tournament against a Mississippi State team that finished with a losing record in the SEC?

Baylor is 3-2 in March with a four-point loss to Houston and a two-point defeat in the Big 12 tournament to Texas Tech. Mississippi State is 2-5 in its last seven games, per NCAAB betting trends. Welcome to March Madness.

The teams have a long way to go to top what happened the last time Baylor crossed paths with Mississippi State as a buzzer-beating basket lifted Mississippi State to the 78-77 win in the 2018 NCAA tournament.

Mississippi State is listed by the college basketball lines as the 1-point favorite with -120 odds to win outright. Baylor has even odds of winning its sixth consecutive first-round March Madness win.

With the winner of this game likely drawing top-seeded Duke in the second round, Baylor and Mississippi State are priced at +25000 in the March Madness betting odds. Baylor is +3300 and Mississippi State +5000 in the East Region title odds.

Mississippi State vs Baylor Prediction Today March 21

My prediction

Baylor 75, Mississippi State 71

Mississippi State and Baylor headed into the March Madness tournament 8-17 against ranked teams so there are questions about both teams being able to rise to the occasion against top competition.

Baylor is 2-7-2 against the NCAA basketball odds as an underdog this season. Still, I’m going with the talent of this Baylor team and head coach Scott Drew’s March Madness record as the difference in our NCAAB expert picks.

My Analysis

Mississippi State has played without guard Kanye Clary since late November. However, the other eight players who average at least 10 minutes per game have combined to miss just one game this season.

That is not the case for Baylor with just two players appearing in all 33 games. The Bears are as healthy as they have been all season – the only key player on the college basketball injury list being 6-foot-11 Josh Ojianwuna.

Mississippi State has played in higher-scoring games more often than Baylor heading into the tournament. Even though Baylor has held five of its last six opponents under 70 points, we’ll go with the game to land over 144.5 when making our March Madness predictions today.

Baylor vs Mississippi State March Madness Best Prop Bet

When Miami made its run to the Final Four two years ago, Norchad Omier averaged 10 points and 12 rebounds. He has an even bigger role for this year’s Baylor team.

Omier has nine consecutive double-doubles and, last time out, he had 29 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to Texas Tech in the Big 12 quarterfinals.

Take the -125 odds for Omier to have at least 29 combined points, rebounds and assists when making college basketball player prop bets.

Bet on Norchad Omier 29+ Points, Rebounds and Assists (-125)
