Top Scorer Could Be Out for Eagles

UNC Opens ACC Tourney Play Against BC

This might be a good time for the North Carolina team to start resembling the squad that won six postseason games last season. The Tar Heels are in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament despite returning four starters from a team that played for the 2022 national title.

Boston College is coming off an impressive win over Louisville on Tuesday. The degree of difficulty increases in the second round of the ACC tournament.

When it comes to the college basketball news, leading scorer Quinten Post missed the ACC tournament opening win against Louisville with an ankle injury and is questionable for Boston College. Guard Donald Hand is out for the season with a knee injury for the Eagles.

For North Carolina, forward Will Shaver is out for the season as a result of a foot injury.

North Carolina began the season as the No. 1 team in both national polls. However, the Tar Heels aren’t receiving votes in either national poll.

According to the odds to win March Madness, North Carolina (+50000) is tied for 21st in the odds to win the national championship.

North Carolina is 49th in the latest NCAA NET rankings and this game won’t do much to help that ranking. Boston College comes in at No. 162 after moving up five spots with the win against Louisville.

The winner of this game advances to play Clemson in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Youngsters Deliver for Eagles

Without leading scorer and rebounder Quinten Post, Boston College found itself down at halftime against a Louisville team that had won just two conference games this season.

Sophomores Jaeden Zackery and Devin McClockton as well as freshman Prince Aligbe were among the players who turned it up a notch after halftime.

The trio combined for 25 of their 40 points in the second half as Boston College pulled away for 89-62 win to set up a quarterfinal showdown with North Carolina.

Zackery, McClockton and Aligbe combined for 20 points when the Eagles lost to North Carolina 72-64 during the regular season.

Boston College has covered against the college basketball betting lines in four of its last five games.

March Madness or Sadness?

North Carolina finally seemed to put it together after underachieving all season with a three-game winning streak kept alive the hopes of returning to the NCAA Tournament. However, that momentum ended abruptly with a five-point loss at home to rival Duke.

North Carolina shot just 30% from the field in the loss with Leaky Black going 3 of 16 and Caleb Love making just 3 of 12 shots. The veteran guards combined to miss 12 of their 13 3-point attempts.

Perhaps an even more troubling number was the eight field goal attempts by second-leading scorer Armando Bacot. Bacot has 18 field-goal attempts over the last three games so he will need to be more active in this matchup.

The good news is that Bacot did get to the foul line 10 times against Duke and more of that will be needed against the Eagles.

North Carolina is 3-8 against the Las Vegas odds in its last 11 games.

Boston College vs North Carolina Picks and Prediction

Who would have thought that North Carolina would go into the ACC tournament looking to hit the 20-win mark? A win over Boston College probably won’t put North Carolina into the NCAA Tournament. However, a loss would more than likely end any chance of taking part in the March Madness bracket.

This is the first time North Carolina is a double-digit favorite since the last meeting with the Eagles. The Tar Heels have won all 11 games this season when favored by at least 10 points. However, they are just 5-6 against the college basketball odds in those games.

The Tar Heels are 19-5 when listed by the sportsbook as the favorite. Boston College is 10-12 as the underdog.

Both teams are 3-2 in neutral-site games. North Carolina has covered in just one of those contests.

How many times can those making college basketball picks say that North Carolina is too talented while continuing to come up short? It is hard to trust the Tar Heels as a double-digit favorite against anybody these days even if they should survive and advance.
