Middle Tennessee Coming Off Emotional Win

The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders rebounded well from a last-second 3-pointer that forced overtime by Belmont on Saturday, holding the Bruins to 1-of-9 shooting in the extra period to earn an 85-75 victory. The Blue Raiders had taken a three-point lead with just 3.5 seconds to go, but Belmont’s Ben Sheppard hit a game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime.

I thought our guys just stayed mentally tough,” Middle Tennessee coach Nick McDevitt said after Saturday’s win. ”I liked what they were saying to each other in the huddle in between the end of regulation and overtime. To say that and then go out there and do it, I thought, showed a lot of mental toughness.”

Sophomore guard Teafale Lenard Jr. had a big game with career highs in points (20 points), rebounds (eight), and blocked shots (six). Lenard is averaging just 8.5 points per game but is a force on the defensive end, averaging 2.1 blocks and 1.6 steals.

Senior forward DeAndre Dishman leads the Blue Raiders with 12.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Dishman notched his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Belmont.
