Tigers On Three-Game Win Streak

Clemson’s Tight Defense
The Clemson Tigers have been riding a strong defense to three consecutive wins (combined margin of 55 points), their last three opponents (Richmond. Georgia Tech, North Carolina St.) averaging just 62.3 points per game. That’s an improvement over the team’s season average of 66.3 ppg allowed
Senior forward Hunter Tyson had a big game in Friday’s win over the Wolfpack, with 31 points and 15 rebounds. Tyson is leading the Tigers with season averages of 15.6 points and 9.7 rebounds, adding just over a steal per contest.
Junior guard Chase Hunter is another productive player in coach Brad Brownell’s rotation, leading with 4.6 assists per game while also second on the team in scoring (14.6 ppg, 45.8% 3-point accuracy.
Tech Scuffling of Late
The Virginia Tech Hokies have struggled in their last two games, conference losses to Boston College (five points) and Wake Forest (two points). Part of that is due to Hunter Cattoor injuring his left arm in the loss to the Eagles, then missing this past Saturday’s game against the Demon Deacons. However, the senior guard is expected to play in Wednesday’s contest.
“He feels great. We had a shot to play him today. But he’s very close,” coach Mike Young said of Cattoor’s status after the loss Saturday. “I think he’ll play on Wednesday. I just thought it was in his best interest and our team’s best interest to hold onto him for a night here. He’s still a little tender, he’s still got some bruising on that elbow.”
Cattoor is averaging 9.6 points and 4.1 rebounds this season and was the MVP of the ACC Tournament a season ago. He had 13 points in the Hokies’ last win (Grambling) on Dec. 17th.
Sophomore guard Sean Pedulla is leading the Hokies in both scoring (17.4 ppg) and assists (4.3 apg). He has scored 18 or more in four of his last five.
