Bruins Look to Stay Perfect at Pauley Pavilion

Will Pioneers Pull a Hollywood-Level Upset?

On Saturday, the Denver Pioneers and UCLA Bruins square off in non-conference college basketball action. UCLA comes into the game as a substantial favorite given its 6-0 record at home, but Denver comes in at 8-2 and could fly under the radar to give the Bruins a scare. After winning their first two conference games, UCLA looks to avoid a letdown as it takes a brief step back out of Pac-12 competition.

Let’s check the latest college basketball odds, stats, injury reports and college basketball lines for Denver vs UCLA. We’ve plenty of NCAA basketball odds for you to consider.

Denver Faces First Real Test

The Denver Pioneers have won three of their first four road games. But the question for Denver is how legitimate their win rate really is based on their strength of schedule. This will be the Pioneers’ first Power 5 conference opponent, as Denver’s strength of schedule is ranked worst in the country entering this game per Kenpom.

If Denver is going to hang around and give itself a chance to win, it is going to need to find a way to shoot the ball efficiently. The Pioneers have converted on 52.5% of their field goal attempts. But against the toughest opponent they have played this season by a wide margin, they could be set to regress in that department.

Questions Linger About UCLA, But Will They Matter?

This season, the UCLA Bruins have gone 7-2 and 6-0 on their home floor, but there may be a ceiling to how well this team can play. The Bruins have played two ranked opponents, losing to both Illinois and Baylor. While there will be questions about how well this team can play against the top teams in the Pac-12, those questions may not be of import against a Denver team that has not played quality competition.

In this contest, the defensive end of the floor is going to be of vital importance to the Bruins. They have allowed under 70 points in each of their last four games, propelling them to a four-game winning streak following their most recent loss to a ranked team against Baylor on November 20. If they can avoid getting into a shootout with a Denver team that has been efficient from the floor, this could be a straightforward affair for UCLA.

Denver vs UCLA Picks & Prediction

This game has the potential to be a lot closer than expected based on the motivational factors at play for both sides. This is the biggest game that Denver will play this season barring a trip to the NCAA Tournament, and it should come out with vigor as a result. UCLA, meanwhile, is simply tuning up for much more significant non-conference games against Maryland and Kentucky before Pac-12 play looms once again.

There is no denying that UCLA is the better team, but this game could still come down to the wire. Expect the Pioneers to cover the sizable point spread in this non-conference clash out West.
