Sophomore guard Will Richard is second on the team in scoring at 10.7 points per game, but he’s struggled with his shot of late. Richard has scored a total of nine points over the last three games, shooting 4-for-17 from the floor, including 0-for-8 from 3-point range.
Junior guard Trey Bonham has been going the other way, heating up over the last five games. Bonham has a season scoring average of 10.2 points per game but has scored 12 points or more in three of the last five contests.
Auburn Preparing for Tougher Competition
The Auburn Tigers have rolled to 10 wins in their first 12 games this season, but they know the real season is about to begin. The SEC is stronger this season, so if the Tigers are going to contend for the conference title, they’re going to have to up their play, starting on Wednesday vs Florida.
“If you look at the league, we’ve got six teams ranked in the Top 25 in the country, three in the top 10,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said heading into Wednesday’s game. “And then you’ve got a team like Missouri who just had a great win over Illinois. The league is just better.”
Junior guard Wendell Green Jr. will be a key to Auburn’s conference title hopes. Green is leading the Tigers in both scoring (12.6 points) and assists per game (3.7).
Forward Johni Broome is also a big key for Pearl and the Tigers. The 6-10 sophomore is an interior presence on both ends of the floor, averaging 12.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.2 steals.
