Bulldogs, Tigers Rematch

Georgia, Auburn Meet Twice in Four Weeks

The Georgia Bulldogs and Auburn Tigers are set to meet again. The two sides squared off early in the calendar year (Jan. 4, in Athens) and now meet on The Plains.

Georgia won 76-64 in one of the notable upsets of this SEC season versus the college basketball odds.

Auburn is fourth in the SEC at 6-2, 2.5 games behind 9-0 Alabama, one game behind 7-1 Tennessee, and a half-game behind 7-2 Texas A&M.

It’s a crucial game for the Tigers as they try to get a higher seeding for March Madness. Will they get their revenge and cover in the sportsbook, though?

Let’s check the latest college basketball news, stats, injury reports and college basketball lines for Georgia vs Auburn. We’ve got plenty of NCAA basketball picks for you to consider.

Georgia Hopes To Make NIT This Year

The Georgia Bulldogs were a bad basketball team in the final few seasons of former coach Tom Crean’s tenure in Athens. UGA fell to the bottom tier of the Southeastern Conference and was a completely irrelevant basketball school.

Georgia had to make a change, and it stayed within the SEC to make that change: Mike White.

White led Florida to multiple NCAA Tournaments in Gainesville, but he never did lead Florida back to the Final Four, which was the expected standard after the long and successful reign of program icon Billy Donovan, who won back-to-back national championships with the Gators.

White did make the Elite Eight in 2017, but he never got back to the Sweet 16, let alone the Elite Eight, in his subsequent seasons in Gainesville. He was under fire from the fan base, and the expectations were high.

He parachuted out of town and made a quick getaway to Georgia, where the expectations for success aren’t nearly as high and the pressure of the job isn’t nearly as suffocating.

Year 1 of White’s tenure has gotten off to a solid start. Georgia is 14-7 through 21 games and is on course to make the NIT.

It would be valuable for UGA to make the NIT and get postseason experience as a building block heading into next season, when Georgia might harbor realistic hopes of making it to March Madness.

Auburn Fighting Longstanding Problems

The Tigers are going to be in the NCAA Tournament without any problem. They’re currently a projected No. 6 seed for March Madness.

However, they can be better than they have shown this season. Auburn gets into ruts on offense and has games in which it commits tons of turnovers, misses lots of 3-pointers, or both.

Auburn committed 23 turnovers in a loss to USC earlier this season, and it has had other games with 17 or more turnovers, just wretched basketball.

The Tigers shot only 21% from three-point range in their loss to Georgia. They know they need to take better shots and not depend on the three-pointer for most of their offense.

Avenging the Georgia loss is something Auburn will be intent on achieving.

Georgia vs Auburn Picks and Prediction

The game should be straightforward for Auburn. That’s not because Auburn is consistent (the Tigers are not a steady team, they’re actually volatile) but because Auburn has already played one really bad basketball game against Georgia this year.

If you’re making your college basketball picks here, don’t bet on Auburn playing two bad games against the same team. The Tigers should win by 12 to 15 points, so lay the points with them if you bet online.

Auburn is listed at -800 in our Vegas college basketball lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Tigers, you have a chance to win $13. Georgia is +550, offering a chance to win $550 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Bulldogs an 88.89% chance to win, with the Tigers at 15.38%.
