Even without being ranked, Alabama is a team that could pose a threat in College Basketball spreads against No.4 Purdue. That makes this game interesting for sports bettors because there is a potential for an upset.
In the Crimson Tide’s last game, they dominated Arkansas State 89-65, remaining one of the top offenses in the nation. The Boilermakers also picked up a big win in their last game, getting their first in Big Ten play, beating Iowa, 87-68.
Alabama’s High-Powered Offense Could Change This Game
Alabama might have one of the best offenses in college basketball despite not being ranked in the AP Top 25. Part of that is because the Crimson Tide’s defense is struggling, but the offense always gives them an advantage in NCAA Basketball odds.
Alabama averages 94.1 points per game, second-most in the country. A big reason has been the Tide has been deadly from behind the 3-point line. The Crimson Tide make 10.6 threes per game, 11th-most in the county, shooting 40.9% from behind the arc, 10th-best.
That gives Alabama a chance to upset Purdue on College basketball lines. Purdue wants to plant its star, center Zach Edey and reigning National Player of the Year, in the paint on defense, which gives opponents extra space at the 3-point line. Opponents average 26 three-point attempts per game against Purdue, and the way Alabama shoots from deep will be the deciding factor in this matchup.
While the box score looked pretty tame for Alabama against Arkansas State, it still hit 13-of-31 threes. Three players are averaging 14 points or more per game this season, headlined by Mark Sears (19.8), who also shoots 51.5% from three on 4.1 attempts.
Purdue Back On Track After Loss
It seemed like Purdue was on top of the college basketball world, looking clearly like the best team in the nation. The Boilermakers had won the first seven games, which included three straight wins over ranked opponents in Gonzaga, Tennessee, and Marquette. They then beat Texas Southern before losing to an unranked Northwestern in overtime.
That loss did not change much of Purdue’s College Basketball predictions, but it reminded everyone of this team’s issues. Northwestern went 10-20 from three, which Alabama will try to replicate. However, Purdue did shoot 26.3% on 19 attempts from behind the arc, which is something Alabama might not be able to force with its struggling defense.

Even in the loss to Northwestern, Purdue still dominated the interior, primarily because of Edey. The Boilermakers outrebounded Northwestern 52-27, and Edey was a massive part of that, scoring 25 points, 15 off free throws, and grabbing 14 rebounds, four offensive. That continued against Iowa, with Edey finishing with 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Edey’s dominating ability in the paint can be the great equalizer for Alabama’s high-flying, outside-shooting offense. The Boilermakers are one of the top overall teams in the nation, which would lean NCAA basketball lines in their direction. However, they need to keep Alabama’s offense in check.
Alabama vs Purdue Best Bet
This game might be one of the weekend’s highlights for college basketball picks. Alabama is uniquely equipped to expose Purdue’s defense, but the Boilermakers are still one of the top teams in the nation.
While this game does have the potential to be an upset, the points total seems like a great option for betting. Both teams have elite offenses, and the Crimson Tide doesn’t have the defense to match up with the Boilermakers, forcing them to need a big offensive game to keep things close.
