Wolverines on Three-Game Win Streak

Michigan is on a three-game winning streak and is also in that four-team tie for second. This is a crucial game for both teams, so check out our in-depth preview of the contest before you do any betting online.

Indiana Riding Hot Play of Jackson-Davis

The Indiana Hoosiers were considered one of the top teams in the Big Ten heading into this season because of the decision of forward Trayce Jackson-Davis to return to school for this senior season. Jackson-Davis and the Hoosiers are showing why that was a good consideration as they are solidly in the NCAA Tournament picture, with the All-American leading the way.

I think we’ve gotten a lot better playing around Trayce, giving him space,” Indiana forward Miller Kopp said after Tuesday’s win over Rutgers. “It comes down to getting better at what the coaches are asking us to do and we’re all feeling more comfortable with where our looks are coming from.

Jackson-Davis is drawing plenty of defensive attention from opponents, but it hasn’t mattered, as he’s averaging 19.8 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 blocks per game.

Jackson-Davis became the first player in school history to score 2,000 career points and grab 1,000 career rebounds with 20 points and 18 rebounds (along with six assists) in the win over the Scarlet Knights. Jackson-Davis has grabbed 18 or more rebounds in three of the last five games.

Freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino is the only other Indiana player averaging in double figures, scoring 12.2 points per game while dishing out 4.2 assists per contest. But the Hoosiers have plenty of players who can get hot from the perimeter, including Kopp, who had 18 points and hit 4-of-6 from 3-point range in the win over Rutgers.

Michigan Needs To Get Hot

The Big Ten is well represented in the many predictions for the NCAA Tournament field, but the Michigan Wolverines aren’t usually included in that group despite their status tied for second-place in the league standings. If coach Juwan Howard’s squad is going to make a seventh straight NCAA Tournament, it is going to need to come up with some big wins against ranked opponents like Indiana.

If the Wolverines are going to knock off the Hoosiers, it will need a big performance from center Hunter Dickinson, the team’s leader in scoring (18.0 points), rebounding (8.5) and blocks (1.6). The 7-1 junior disappeared in Michigan’s loss to Penn State on Jan. 29, managing just six points and two rebounds, but he’s averaged 20.3 points and 8.0 rebounds in the three games since, all Wolverine wins.

Michigan has also been getting solid play on the offensive end from freshman guard Jett Howard. Howard is averaging 15.0 points and shooting 39.2% from 3-point range, and he’s coming off a 22-point performance in a win over Nebraska on Wednesday.

Indiana vs Michigan Head-To-Head

The Michigan Wolverines have dominated this rivalry over the last few years, but it was the Indiana Hoosiers coming out on top when the teams played in the Big Ten Tournament last season. That Indiana victory snapped a nine-game winning streak for the Wolverines in the rivalry that dated back to the 2015-16 season.

The Hoosiers lead the all-time series 107-66, though the Wolverines have a 48-38 edge at home, winning the last four meetings played at Crisler Center. The college basketball lines for Saturday’s contest are favoring Michigan to extend that streak with a win.
