Logjam in Big 12 Standings
Teams will try to boost their standings in the Big 12 race when the Kansas Jayhawks visit the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.
After defeating Texas earlier in the week, the Jayhawks are one game out of first place in the Big 12 with a 7-4 conference record.
The Sooners, meanwhile, are ninth in the conference with a 2-9 record. Oklahoma is on its second three-game skid in seven games, broken up by its defeat of Alabama in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
The two met at Kansas earlier this season when the Sooners nearly pulled off an upset. Oklahoma was up 10 points late in the second half, but the Jayhawks charged back to win 79-75.
According to college basketball odds, Kansas (+1300) has the fifth-best odds to win the national championship. The Jayhawks (+210) also have the second-best odds to win the Big 12 title.

Kansas Bounces Back
The Jayhawks rebounded from their double-digit loss to Iowa State last week with an eight-point win over Texas.
Kansas had a much different offensive performance in its win compared to its loss to the Cyclones. The Jayhawks shot better in their win over Texas, finishing with a 49.2% field goal percentage compared to 38.6% against Iowa State.
The Jayhawks were able to find multiple scoring options against Texas. Kansas has four players that average double figures, led by Jalen Wilson with 20.7 points a game. Wilson was the only one in double figures in the loss to Iowa State, scoring 26. He was held to two points against Texas, but five players hit double digits to make up for it.
Kansas also limited its turnovers in its last win. After the Jayhawks had 11 turnovers that led to 12 first-half points for Iowa State, they finished with 11 total turnovers against Texas.
The Jayhawks will need to continue to find a balanced scoring attack and protect the ball to win on the road.
Oklahoma Continues Struggle
The Sooners’ three-game losing streak has been in part due to their defensive difficulties.
Oklahoma is fourth in the Big 12 in points allowed, with opponents averaging 67 points a game. However, in each of their past three games, the Sooners have allowed opponents to score over that, with teams averaging 82 points in that time.
The Sooners’ last strong defensive performance came in their win over then-No. 2 Alabama. The Crimson Tide finished with 69 points but struggled to get there, shooting 37.9% from the field against Oklahoma.
When Oklahoma almost beat Kansas, it made it hard for the Jayhawks to score as well, as Kansas shot 37.3% in the win. Teams haven’t shot that low in any of the Sooners’ last three losses, with opponents averaging 45.6% against them in that time.
The Sooners have the third-worst shooting percentage allowed in the Big 12, with teams shooting 42.5% against them. They’ll need a defensive performance closer to the first game against Kansas.

Kansas vs Oklahoma Picks & Prediction
Oklahoma is on a skid and looking to bounce back, but Kansas will make that tough after playing well in its own bounce-back game.
The Jayhawks improved their offense in their last win and fixed their mistakes, while the Sooners’ offense remains at the bottom of the conference. Oklahoma’s defense also hasn’t been able to get stops. Kansas’ defense isn’t great at slowing down opponents either, though its offense can usually keep up. Oklahoma is looking to avenge its earlier loss with a win at home, but Kansas’ offense will be too much to overcome.
