Bluejays Eye Ninth Straight Win at Home

Marquette Bidding to Sweep Season Series

This should be a fun one as Marquette looks to remain in sole possession of first place in the Big East with a challenging road game at Creighton.

The teams are ranked second and third in the Big East in field goal percentage with Marquette taking 51 more shots than Creighton has in the same number of games.

Marquette is one of two teams in the Big East with a winning record on the road. However, Creighton is 12-1 at home and has won eight games in a row at home.

Emarion Ellis, who has yet to play this season, is questionable for Marquette while Zach Wrightsil is out for the season.

Francisco Farabello returned for the St. John’s game after missing two weeks for the Bluejays, who are about as healthy as they have been all season.

Mitchell Coming on Strong

When it comes to the options for the second-leading offensive team in the Big East, Marquette sophomore guard Stevie Mitchell tends to be overlooked.

However, if not for Mitchell scoring 17 points, the Golden Eagles would be heading into Tuesday’s matchup in a tie for first in the Big East rather than having the top spot all to itself.

With so much attention paid to fellow starting guard Tyler Kolek, who is averaging 17.2 points with 12 3-pointers over his last six games, there is room for Mitchell to operate.

Mitchell and Kolek were 3 of 11 from the field (1 of 5 on 3-pointers) in the first meeting this season and Marquette still won comfortably so that is not good news for the Bluejays.

Marquette has covered against the college basketball betting lines in 10 of its last 14 games.

What’s In Reserve?

Creighton could very easily be taking a 10-game winning streak into this game, with the only blemish over that span being a double-overtime loss to Providence. Creighton led by six points in that game.

A lack of depth came back to haunt the Bluejays in that matchup with all five starters playing at least 45 minutes and Creighton managing just four bench points.

Creighton got 20 points off the bench the last time out against St. John’s with Shereef Mitchell scoring a season-high nine points (two more than he had in the previous five games combined) and freshman Mason Miller matching his season high with eight points.

When the teams met in December, the Bluejays’ reserves were outscored 21-7.

Creighton is 2-4 against the Las Vegas odds in its last six games.

Marquette leads the conference in steals and turnover margin. Can the Golden Eagles fluster Creighton point guard Ryan Nembhard, who has 21 assists and just nine turnovers in his last six games?
