Tuesday Big East Action

Full Steam Ahead for Marquette

The Marquette Golden Eagles are firing on all cylinders and look to continue their momentum against the struggling St. John’s Red Storm.

It’s expected to be a close contest, with NCAAB odds opening Marquette at -2½ favorites following wins over Seton Hall and Villanova.

Big East action features tough defense and we expect a low-scoring encounter.

Let’s check the latest march madness predictions, stats, injury reports, and march madness picks for Marquette vs St. John’s. We’ve plenty of march madness expert picks for you to consider.

Golden Eagles Flying

Being 11-4 overall is usually good enough to lead the Big East, but the Golden Eagles are looking to close the gap on Providence, who beat them 103-98 in overtime on Dec. 20.

They defeated two Big East wins following that loss, including a gutsy 68-66 win over the Wildcats, which holds them in good stead against St. John’s.

Bettors have had a good time betting on the Golden Eagles, who are 9-5-1 against the spread, and although their best form has come at home, they come off a road win against Villanova.

They have followers, including Kayvaun Mulready, who could be heading to Marquette next year.

“They have a high standard on defense; it’s their first priority and they know their offense will come with it,” Mulready said. “They roll with a bunch of young guys and trust their players. They showed me great hospitality when I went on my visit there. Coaching staff are great people. Fit my play style.”

His potential signing should give Marquette plenty to get excited about, so the -2½ betting online number against St. John’s might not last long. We expect the majority of the money to come for the visitors on Tuesday.

Red Storm Struggling in Conference Play

Things were going well for the Red Storm at 14-1, but after three consecutive losses to Big East opponents, they’re in trouble.

They had beaten Florida State 93-79, but losing to Villanova, Xavier, and Seton Hall shows how good the Big East is this season.

Their defense is still strong, allowing 70.7 points per game, but they come off an 88-66 loss to Seton Hall on Dec. 31, and that’s not going to give them any confidence.

They have failed to cover the sportsbook betting spread in four of their last five games and seven of their last 10, so bettors are losing confidence, and rightfully so.

We didn’t predict St. John’s owning an 11-4 record at this stage, so it has exceeded expectations. However, that means it’s likely to continue losing, and facing an in-form Marquette isn’t an ideal situation.

They are 6-9 ATS, but 8-1 straight-up at home. Playing at Carnesecca Arena could be the difference and it’s why bookmakers have only 2½ points between them.

Marquette vs St. John’s Head-to-Head

Marquette won the most recent meeting 85-77 when covering the -4 spread in March last year.

However, St John’s covered the spread in three consecutive games prior to that and won two of them straight-up.

The home team is 10-2 ATS in the last 12 meetings, which adds weight to St John’s getting points at home.

Marquette vs St. John’s Betting Lines

Marquette vs St. John’s Picks & Prediction

Despite betting stats favoring St John’s, we’re taking Marquette to keep its winning run intact.

The Golden Eagles are chasing down the top seed in the Big East and the Red Storm are only 1-3 in the division.

The -2½ line is generous and under 156½ is the play. Our NCAAB picks favor the under because Big East games are typically low-scoring affairs.

Marquette is listed at -140 in our Vegas NCAAB lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Golden Eagles, there’s a chance to win $71. St. John’s is +120, offering a chance to win $120 on a $100 wager.

The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives Marquette a 58.33% chance to win, with the Red Storm at 45.45%.
