Golden Eagles Tied Atop Big East Standings
UConn Eyes First Ranked Win Since November
UConn has just one win in six games against the teams ahead of them in the Big East standings and that has led to the Huskies falling from No. 2 in the national polls to struggling to remain in the Top 25. One of those losses came to Marquette and here is a chance for payback with the Golden Eagles coming to Hartford.
Marquette has won five games in a row to move into a tie with Xavier atop the Big East standings. While the Golden Eagles are 13-1 at home, they are also two games over .500 on the road.

Marquette is second and UConn third in the Big East in points per game. More importantly, the Golden Eagles and Huskies are 1-2 in the conference in scoring margin.
Guard Sean Jones, who is averaging 4.5 points, is questionable for Marquette. He had seven points in the first game. Zach Wrightsil is out for the season with a knee injury. It should be all hands on deck for UConn.
Both teams moved up in the national polls. Marquette moved up four spots to No. 10 and UConn went from 24th to 21st in the Associated Press poll. In the coaches’ poll, Marquette went from 12th to 10th and UConn from 23rd to 21st.
According to the college basketball odds, UConn (+1800) is tied for seventh in the odds to win the national title while Marquette (+4000) is tied for 16th.

Hitting the Glass
Earlier in the season, UConn used strong play inside, defensive intensity and timely shooting from the perimeter to rise up the rankings.
While the last three wins have come against teams at the bottom of the Big East standings, there have been some promising signs in recent action.
In a win over Georgetown the last time out, the Huskies pulled down 19 offensive rebounds. That matched the most this season in a conference game. That came after the Huskies set season highs with 30 free throws made and 34 attempted foul shots.
The level of competition is going up a notch with Marquette coming to town.
