The Memphis Tigers made a big late push to the NCAA Tournament last season and are aiming to carry it over into the 2022-23 campaign. Their goal is to build a winning identity under head coach Penny Hardaway.
The Tigers started the year with a quality win over the Vanderbilt Commodores of the SEC and now take on the Saint Louis Billikens. The Billikens have started 2-0 and are trying to find a spark under head coach Travis Ford.

Can they cover the college basketball odds in this spot or are the Tigers the best option for those who bet online?
Let’s check the latest college basketball odds, stats, injury reports and college basketball lines for Memphis vs Saint Louis. We’ve plenty of NCAA basketball odds for you to consider.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers looked like an NIT team midway through the 2022 college basketball season. They picked up a number of ugly losses in the first two months of their season. They needed to be dramatically better in order to transform their fortunes and the overall outlook for the program.
They did exactly that, beating the American Athletic Conference favorite twice. Two wins over the Houston Cougars (a team which eventually reached the Elite Eight) gave Memphis the high-end quality wins that enabled the Tigers to make the NCAA Tournament and take a lot of heat off Hardaway.
Memphis finally played disciplined team basketball instead of devolving into selfish, lazy, one-on-one play without focused, responsible players.
The Tigers became much more organized and cohesive at both ends of the court, communicating on defense and showing the togetherness that had been missing within the program.
Memphis led Gonzaga for a good portion of an NCAA Tournament Round of 32 game before ultimately falling to the Zags.
The Tigers hope they can take that March Madness experience and translate it into a good season with a lot of new faces on the roster.
Memphis beat a not-very-good Vanderbilt team by nine points (76-67) in its season opener. It remains to be seen just how much that game does or doesn’t indicate about the strength and health of the program.
Saint Louis Billikens
Travis Ford has coached Saint Louis since the 2016-2017 season. He has made one NCAA Tournament in 2019.
The pressure is on him to bring St. Louis back to March Madness and find a way into the top tier of the Atlantic 10 Conference standings. Saint Louis has played two games this season, winning both.
The Billikens beat Murray State and then followed that up with a win over Evansville. Murray State had a really good team last season, but the Racers have lost their most important players from that group.
Therefore, it’s hard to say too much about how significant SLU’s win over the Racers truly is. It’s an open question at this point.
