The No. 14 Miami Hurricanes go for a ninth straight win when they visit the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for an ACC contest on Friday. Miami is unbeaten in league play, including a win over Virginia in its last contest, and is a half-game ahead of both Clemson and Pittsburgh at the top of the ACC standings.

Miami Deals with Change in Schedule
The Miami Hurricanes were scheduled to take on Vermont in their return from the Christmas break, but weather issues forced the cancellation of the Tuesday contest. Instead, the Hurricanes got extra time to prepare for the resumption of the ACC portion of their schedule.
“We had a terrific scrimmage to try to stay in shape and then Wednesday and Thursday will be preparation days and then the big game,” Miami head coach Jim Larranaga said about the week leading up to Friday’s game. “Right now we’re 3-0 in the ACC, sitting in first place by ourselves and 12-1 overall, sitting at 14th in the country, so a lot of excitement is surrounding the basketball program.”
Guard Isaiah Wong is hoping to pick up where he left off before the holiday, considering he was the ACC Player of the Week in each of the last two weeks. Wong has averaged 26.0 points on 55.7% shooting from the floor over the last four contests, including 24 points against then-No. 6 Virginia in the Hurricanes’ last game.
Sophomore forward Norchad Omier has been strong on the interior, averaging 13.5 points and a team-best 9.8 rebounds. Omier is also a problem on the defensive end for opponents as he averages 1.4 blocks and 1.2 steals.
Notre Dame Defense Powers Winning Effort
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been struggling to stop opponents from scoring in recent weeks, allowing an average of 76.3 points over a three-game losing streak. But Tuesday brought a much better effort on the defensive end, with the Irish holding Jacksonville to 43 points, the fewest by a Notre Dame opponent since the 2014-15 season.
Senior guard Marcus Hammond played in his sixth game, having missed the early part of the campaign due to a sprained MCL. He had his best game of 2022-23, scoring 15 points, including hitting 3-of-7 from 3-point range, after totalling 23 points over his first five contests.
Forward Nate Laszewski is leading the Fighting Irish in scoring at 14.3 points per game, but he managed just five points in the win over Jacksonville. The senior is also pacing Notre Dame with 7.7 rebounds per contest while shooting 40.4% from 3-point range.
Freshman guard J.J. Starling has made an impact, averaging 13.1 points to rank second on the team. The Fighting Irish have five players scoring in double digits, though that’s partially because of the lack of depth that coach Mike Brey has at his disposal.
