Michigan State Good ATS Bet in High-Scoring Game vs Iowa

The Iowa Hawkeyes (15-11) head on the road to face the Michigan State Spartans (17-9) in a game that should top many NCAAB expert picks on Tuesday, Feb. 20, based on the trends. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Breslin Center in East Lansing, MI. The over/under for this game is set at 154½ and Michigan State is a 10-point favorite.

Between the success Michigan State has had at home this season and Iowa’s road woes, it’s easy to see how this game landed where it did in terms of college basketball lines. But going beyond that, Michigan State sits at 9-6 in conference play, locked in a three-way tie for the No. 3 seed in the Big Ten, one and a half games back of Illinois for the No. 2 spot. Iowa is 7-8 in conference play and faces their own concern of dropping in the standings, but also have ground to make up if they want to catch the top five teams, currently sitting two games back of the No. 5 spot.

Iowa vs Michigan State Over/Under Pick: Over 154½

Michigan State has been excellent this season at hitting the over at home, doing so in seven of the last 10 games. The same can be said for Iowa on the road, and in turn, I think we see a high-scoring game here. Both of these teams have shown the ability to score 80-plus points and Iowa did so in its last game, an 88-86 overtime upset of Wisconsin.

The key to hitting this over will be whether Iowa can keep pace with Michigan State, who allows just 65.8 points per game this season. But on the flip side, the Hawkeyes give up 78.3 points per game while averaging 83.7 themselves. I like the over here and think we see a high-scoring game that the Spartans run away with.

Iowa vs Michigan State AT Pick: Michigan State -10

While Iowa’s victory over Wisconsin is noteworthy, Michigan State’s home record, specifically from a college basketball betting perspective, speaks for itself. They’ve covered 12 of 16 games at home and are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 home games as a favorite. The Spartans haven’t lost at home since December 5, and oddly enough, it came against Wisconsin. They’ve won their last nine home games by eight or more points, with the eight-point victory coming against then-No. 10 ranked Illinois, and aside from a nine-point victory over Maryland, every other game is a double-digit win in that span.

I’m riding the hot hand in Michigan State here over Iowa, who’s now dropped three straight road games and has just two true road victories all year.

Iowa vs Michigan State Avoid The Moneyline

The odds are simply too high here for Michigan State to even consider touching the moneyline, checking in at -550. And based on how well the Spartans have played at home, along with Iowa’s struggles on the road, it’d take a lot of convincing and persuasion to make me put anything on the Hawkeyes to win this game outright, even at +415.

Questions Of The Day

Which team is better defensively between Iowa and Michigan State?

Michigan State has been the far superior defensive team this year, allowing just 65.8 points per game while that end of the floor has been Iowa’s Achilles heel. The Hawkeyes have given up 78.3 points per game defensively this year.

Which player will score the most points between Iowa and Michigan State?

It’s hard not to like Michigan State guard Tyson Walker here, as he’s averaged 18.4 points per game this season. Walker has totaled 123 more shot attempts than any other Michigan State player and has scored 19 or more points in four of the last five games.
