The first NCAA Tournament appearance in 11 years will begin quickly for AU, as the 16th-seeded Eagles will face 16th-seeded Mount St. Mary’sin the NCAA First Four in Dayton, Ohio, on Wednesday, March 19.

My Analysis

Typically, First Four matchups come between teams with little familiarity. That is not the case this time with American topping Mount St. Mary’s 68-65 just 16 months ago.

Terrell Ard Jr., the third-leading scorer for Mount St. Mary’s, hasn’t played since Feb. 28 while Carmelo Pacheco has missed the last three games.

After a scare in the Patriot League quarterfinals, American posted back-to-back double-digit point wins, allowing just 52 and 62 points in those games, giving the Eagles plenty of confidence heading into the March Madness games.

The last time Matt Rogers faced Mount St. Mary’s, he had 16 points in 28 minutes.
