NCAAB Bets: Notre Dame Might Not Upset Boston College But Will Keep It Close

Two opposites will meet when Notre Dame (7-10, 2-4) travels to face Boston College (10-6, 1-4) in ACC play. Notre Dame has leaned on its defense all season, while Boston College’s offense has been solid despite not leading to wins. That could help when making NCAA basketball predictions for this game.

The Fighting Irish lost their last game 67-58, facing Florida State, running into issues on the offensive end of the court but still playing solid defense. The Eagles also lost their last game, falling to a ranked Clemson team, losing 89-78. However, due to an illness, the Eagles were without leading scorer Quinten Post.

Notre Dame +10

The defense has helped Notre Dame survive this season, allowing 65.2 points per game, the second-lowest in the ACC. Even on the road, the Fighting Irish should be able to find a way to force Boston College into a grind-out, low-scoring game. The Fighting Irish might not win the game, but they should play strong enough defense to cover the college basketball spread.

Specifically in ACC play, Notre Dame still has one of the top defenses, giving up 62 points per game, the second lowest in the conference. However, the biggest reason they have not been a better option in college basketball picks is because the offense only averages 61.5 points per game, ranked 15th in ACC play.

Boston College has almost been the exact inverse of Notre Dame. In ACC play, the Eagles are averaging the second-highest points per game (77.6) and allowing the 15th most (82.6).

Over/Under Pick: Notre Dame, Boston College Under 135½

This game is a clear under for college basketball betting, especially if Notre Dame finds a way to cover. If the Fighting Irish keep this game close, there isn’t much of a chance of them hitting the over because of their defense.

On top of that, it is unclear how healthy Boston College will be for this game. The Eagles’ leading scorer, Post (16.9 points average), missed the last game with a stomach illness, along with Prince Aligbe and Armani Mighty. Each player has appeared in 15 games this season.

Having Post back for this game should boost the Eagle’s offensive numbers, who still scored 78 points without him because last time out. Still, it might take Post some time to get fully in the swing of things offensively after missing a game.

Both Teams to Score 65+ – No (-186)

Even with Notre Dame’s defense, Boston College should still be able to get over 65 points, especially with Post potentially being back on the court. However, the issue is Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are averaging 61.5 points per game in ACC play, and it does not seem like that will get any better, even against a poor defense like Boston College.
