NCAAB Picks and Predictions Today: Bet Purdue (-130) at Rutgers on January 09

Two of our three Jan. 8 college best bets came through as Indiana rolled past USC and the Virginia-California game landed over the total set by the BetUS sportsbook. Thursday’s schedule only features three games involving ranked teams. With no ACC, Big East, Big 12 or SEC games, the options might be a little limited.

Top 3 College Basketball Picks Today

1. Purdue -130

Rutgers is the home underdog for just the sixth time in the last three seasons when Purdue comes to town.

When looking at the college basketball trends, the Boilermakers have won three straight games against Rutgers and the last time Purdue played on the road against the Scarlet Knights, Braden Smith had 19 points in a 68-60 victory.

Purdue is still trying to figure things out with reigning national player of the year Zach Edey making  a run at the NBA Rookie of the Year award. The Boilermakers opened 2025 with a 20-point win at Minnesota and an 18-point victory against Northwestern.

Rutgers features two of the nation’s top freshmen as Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey are combining for more than 40 points per game. However, Harper was limited to just 15 minutes in a recent loss to Wisconsin.

Even though the Boilermakers have just one road win this season, go with Purdue at -130 as the road favorite when making college basketball bets today.

2. Washington vs Michigan State Under 147

Washington’s first season as a Big Ten team began with losses to former Pac-12 rivals USC and UCLA before the Huskies topped Maryland to win their first conference game of the season.

Things are getting much more challenging for the Huskies. After falling to a ranked Illinois team on Sunday, Washington heads to East Lansing to meet up with Michigan State – part of a stretch of six straight games against ranked teams.

Michigan State just held Ohio State to 37% shooting (26% on 3-pointers). The Pomeroy basketball database has the Spartans ranked 12th in defensive efficiency while Washington is 134th in offensive efficiency.

When considering Washington vs Michigan State best bets, be careful with Michigan State covering as 14.5-point favorites. Taking the game to land under 147 points might be the better option.

Jaden Akins is the only double-digit scorer for Michigan State. He has five straight games with at least 13 points to take a look at -118 odds for Akins to have 14+ points when making college basketball prop picks.

3. Elon vs William & Mary Under 152.5

There is a good matchup in the Colonial Athletic Association as William & Mary is favored by 2½ points against visiting Elon. They are tied with College of Charleston with 2-0 marks in CAA play.

William & Mary is 5-0 at home this season while three of the four losses for Elon came in true road games. However, we are going to look at the sports betting odds total rather than the moneyline or spread.

In Elon’s first two conference games, 142 and 132 points have been scored while William & Mary has allowed 66 points in its first two Colonial matchups. Take the game to land under 152.5 points for your online bet.

Bet This Pick: Elon vs William & Mary Under 152.5
