Any thought of a talented Alabama team overtaking Kansas for the top spot in the national polls ended when the Crimson Tide lost to Purdue. Alabama is back on the court to take on another ranked team in Illinois in the most appealing of the college basketball matchups on Wednesday.

There are three other ranked teams in action with Gonzaga, Texas A&M and Rutgers all favored by at least 19 points. Keep that in mind when making college basketball picks today.

Other than Purdue falling at Marquette in a clash of ranked teams, the other five ranked squads all won by double digits on Tuesday. Will it be more of the same on Wednesday? Keep reading for some betting options to consider.

1. Take Rutgers to Cover Spread at Home

There was plenty of buzz in NCAAB news surrounding Rutgers coming into this season thanks to the arrival of talented freshmen and Ace Bailey. After Bailey missed the first two games, he had 17 points and six rebounds in his debut. Harper is averaging 21.3 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the 3-0 Scarlet Knights.

A 1-2 Merrimack team figures to have its hands full dealing with Harper and Bailey. When making Nov. 20 college basketball predictions, taking Rutgers as a 19½-point favorite is a good place to start.

2. Go With Illinois-Alabama to Land Over Total

Alabama is coming off a loss to Purdue and the Crimson Tide tumbled from No. 2 to No. 8 in The Associated Press Top 25 poll. It doesn’t get much easier with Will Riley, Tomislav Ivisic and the 3-0 Illinois Fighting set to face Alabama in Birmingham.

It is hard to get a read on Illinois with the first three games coming against Eastern Illinois, SIU Edwardsville and Oakland. Playing a talented Alabama team coming off a loss might not be the best timing for an untested Illinois team.

Alabama at -360 to win outright might work as part of a parlay but the 8.5-point college basketball spread seems to be a bit on the high side. Go with the only matchup between ranked teams on Wednesday to land over 167.

3. Penn State Good Bet as Big Favorite

Penn State is coming off an impressive showing against Virginia Tech with Ace Baldwin Jr. and Zach Hicks scoring 19 points each in a 22-point win in Baltimore. Both could be Nov. 20 college basketball player prop options when the Nittany Lions welcome Purdue Fort Wayne to the Bryce Jordan Center.

The college basketball line opened at 13.5 and now Penn State is favored by 16 points against a team that lost its only other game this season against a team from a Power-4 conference.
