West Virginia is coming off a 79-73 loss to St. John’s. The Mountaineers have lost three of their last four games. Quinn Slazinski led West Virginia with 19 points and seven rebounds in a losing effort.


Pitt lost to No. 24 Clemson 79-70 in its last outing. Forward Blake Hinson shined, dropping 27 points and six rebounds against the Tigers. The Panthers have also lost three of their last four matchups.

Pitt has had a challenging schedule with losses to Florida, Missouri and Clemson. The Panthers’ best victory is a 76-51 win over Oregon State.

West Virginia has losses to SMU, No. 24 Virginia and St. John’s to start the season. Neither team enters this matchup looking particularly impressive in the Las Vegas odds.

Players to Watch: Pitt’s Blake Hinson


The Mountaineers do have a dynamic duo in Slazinski and Jesse Edwards. Slazinski is averaging 16.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting 37.5% from the three-point line. Edwards is a regular double-double with 15.7 points, 10 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per contest.

Pittsburgh has multiple players contributing and three individuals averaging double-digit points. Hinson is one of the better scorers in the country, posting 20.5 points and 4.9 assists per game while shooting 42.3% from long range.


Ishmael Leggett is averaging 15.1 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. Guard Carlton Carrington is also a factor all over the court. Carrington is stuffing the stat sheet with 14.6 points, 5.9 assists and 5.4 boards per contest.
