The top-seeded Florida Gators are a 28.5-point favorite in the NCAA basketball odds as they begin their championship quest against MEAC entrant Norfolk State on Friday in Raleigh, N.C.

Florida has won six straight and 12 of its last 13 on the way to the SEC tournament title with a deep lineup of contributors. The Gators are back in the tournament for the second straight season after losing to Colorado in the 2024 first round 102-100.

Norfolk State has won two NCAA Tournament games in five tries and lost the Gators in the 2012 event. The Spartans will put up a fight for a while, but probably should not be part of your March Madness moneyline bets.

My analysis

The Gators will be among many March Madness experts’ picks to run the table in the tournament at +350 odds.

Walter Clayton Jr. leads the offense and has been extremely productive the last five games at 21.4 points per outing. Will Richard averaged 16.7 in the SEC tournament and reserve Thomas Haugh also picked up his production the last three games (12.7).

Norfolk State shoots 48.9 percent from the field and is led by Brian Moore Jr., who averages 18.4 points. But it is our March Madness prediction that Gators should be able to contain the Spartans inside and outside.

Clayton offers very good value to reach 20 points or more at +125. The senior scored 33 in last season’s NCAA Tournament and was 13-for-26 from 3-point range in the SECs to be our best player prop.
