Blue Devils to Battle Bitter Rivals

The Duke Blue Devils will conclude their regular season with a pair of rivalry games, first against the North Carolina State Wolfpack on Tuesday and then at North Carolina.

The Blue Devils are firmly in the NCAA Tournament field in head coach Jon Scheyer’s first season and still have a chance to finish in the top four in the ACC to receive the coveted double bye for next week’s ACC Tournament.

Duke has won four straight games, its longest streak in ACC play this season, capped off by a 81-65 home win vs. Virginia Tech, a team that beat the Blue Devils earlier in the season.

Jeremy Roach had a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists, the latter a career high, as the Duke ran its home winning streak to 15 games by beating the Hokies.

The Wolfpack will try for their first regular-season sweep of the Blue Devils since 1995 after posting a 84-60 win at home Jan. 6, which was the largest margin of victory for an unranked ACC squad against a ranked Duke team in Blue Devils’ history.

North Carolina State, which is 0-3 under head coach Kevin Keatts at Cameron Indoor Stadium, will have to turn the page on Saturday’s home loss to Clemson, a 25-point beating that saw the hot-shooting Tigers score 54 points in the first half.

The Wolfpack need to find a way to get Terquavion Smith out of his slump, which has seen him average 12.3 points while shooting 30% from the field and 23% from 3-point territory over the last four games.

Let’s check the latest college basketball news, stats, injury reports and college basketball lines North Carolina State vs Duke. We’ve got plenty of NCAA basketball picks for you to consider.

Proctor Working it on Both Ends

As the Blue Devils’ top defender, 6-foot-5 guard Tyrese Proctor will have his hands full guarding either Smith or the Wolfpack’s second-leading scorer, Jarkel Joiner.

Proctor, a freshman from Australia, is in the top 10% of all defenders in the country, limiting his primary target to 30.8% shooting overall and 29.2% from 3-point land.

As good as Proctor has been on the defensive end, it’s his second-half breakout on the offensive end that will make the Blue Devils a tough out come March.

In the last 13 games, Proctor has averaged 10.5 points, 4.07 assists and 3.07 rebounds while draining 37% from 3-point territory and shooting 14 of 16 from the foul line.

Burns Bringing it Down Low

D.J. Burns started the season as a reserve forward who played roughly 20 minutes per game, but all that changed when Dusan Mahorcic went down with an injury.

In the last 20 games, the 6-9 forward has more than doubled his scoring production from the first 10 games while also upping his rebounding and shooting percentage.

The senior transfer from Winthrop, who recently surpassed 1,500 career points and 500 rebounds, had 31 points and nine rebounds vs. Wake Forest and his second double-double for NC State with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Boston College.

“This is better than anything I could have dreamed of”, the Rock Hill, S.C., native told the media after the Wolfpack secured their 12th ACC win, tied for most in school history.
