Notre Dame Losers of Two in Row
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish look to avoid a third straight loss when they take on the host Florida State Seminoles in an ACC matchup on Wednesday night. Notre Dame has dropped three of its last four, including its only conference game, and is one of five ACC teams that are winless in league play entering Wednesday.
Florida State had its two-game winning streak snapped with a loss to St. John’s on Saturday, but is 1-1 in conference play and tied with five other teams for fifth place in the conference standings. Both teams need a win in a bad way, so this will be an intense battle. Make sure you’re betting online the right way by reading our in-depth preview of this contest.

Notre Dame Getting Beat Up Inside
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish don’t have a lot of size on their roster this season, with 6-foot-10 senior forward Nate Laszewski being the team’s tallest player. That has shown up on the glass, where Notre Dame is being outboarded by its opponents 32.5-31.0, including a 35-25 deficit in Saturday’s loss to Georgia.
“I was worried that this could happen and we could be beaten up by their physicality,” Notre Dame coach Mike Brey said after Saturday’s loss.
Laszewski is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder, as he averages 15.4 points and 7.9 rebounds while shooting 53.9% from the floor. But Laszewski has to have some help on the interior as the Irish take on conference competition.
Guard Cormac Ryan is second on the team with 12.7 points per game, hitting a team-high 23 3-pointers. Each of the Irish starters are averaging in double digits and have hit at least 13 3-pointers as Notre Dame’s attack is geared toward the perimeter.
Depth is going to be a problem for the Irish all season as Brey is using his starters almost exclusively. All five are averaging over 32 minutes a game, with only two reserves averaging more than two minutes per contest.
Florida State Hoping to Build Off Loss
Although the Florida State Seminoles lost to St. John’s in Saturday’s Orange Bowl Classic, there were some positive things to come out of the setback. Junior Darin Green Jr. was the biggest positive, becoming the first Florida State player since Terance Mann in January 2018 to score 30 points.
Green’s personal best in points came thanks to a career-high and Orange Bowl Classic-record eight 3-pointers. Green is averaging a team-high 14.2 points and has hit three 3-pointers a game, connecting on 45.9% of his attempts.
Sophomore guard Matthew Cleveland is averaging 13.3 points and 6.3 rebounds, ranking second on the team in each category. Unfortunately, he also leads the Seminoles in turnovers, averaging 2.4.
Junior guard Caleb Mills is scoring 12.2 points per game and dishing out a team-high 3.5 assists per contest. Junior guard Cam’Ron Fletcher is the fourth double-figure scorer for Florida State, averaging 10.8 points and a team-best 7.5 rebounds.
