Notre Dame vs Marquette NCAAB Predictions: Golden Eagles’Offense Will Prove Too

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and No. 8 Marquette Golden Eagles square off Saturday in a rivalry matchup that has featured a history of great games.

While Notre Dame holds a big edge in the all-time series, the Fighting Irish enter this as a massive underdog. Marquette has been a force at home to begin the season, going 4-0 and posting a 7-2 record overall.

Notre Dame vs. Marquette NCAAB Predictions: Golden Eagles’Offense Will Prove Too

The Golden Eagles boast wins over three Top-25 teams at the time they met in No. 23 Illinois, No. 1 Kansas, and No. 12 Texas. They also fell to No. 2 (at the time) Purdue by three and knocked off UCLA as well.

As for Notre Dame, the start to the season hasn’t been quite as kind. The Irish are 4-4 overall and lost their road games against South Carolina and Miami by double digits. They scored 53 and 49 in those two road games, and a date with high-scoring Marquette could spell major trouble.

Notre Dame vs Marquette Head-to-Head

Notre Dame and Marquette have met 118 times dating to 1920, with the Irish holding an 81-37 series lead overall. The two met last year in South Bend, with Notre Dame pulling out an impressive 79-64 victory. It had been 10 years since they had last met prior to that, matching up twice in 2012-13, with each team winning once.

Notre Dame vs Marquette Betting Lines

Notre Dame vs Marquette Game Prediction

In order for Notre Dame to have a shot at pulling off the upset, we’ll need to see something far more impressive offensively than what the Irish have put together thus far.

Marquette has gotten it done on both ends of the floor and has showcased legitimate potential to play with any team in the nation.

While Notre Dame is a solid defensive group, Marquette is going to prove to be way too much to handle, and the backcourt duo of Kam Jones and Tyler Kolek are going to create major headaches. I’m taking Marquette to roll.

Predicted Score: Marquette Golden Eagles 81, Notre Dame Fighting Irish 55

Worth Targeting the Total?

I’m staying away from the total in this game. It’s currently set at 139½, and if I were picking I’d go with the under due to the concerns about Notre Dame on the offensive end. Pair that with the fact that Marquette can play solid defense to go with its offensive upside, and this spells disaster, but that number is a low one that I don’t love.

NCAAB Pick: Lean under 139½ (-110)

Worth Betting ATS?

Marquette has too much firepower for Notre Dame. While Irish guard Markus Burton averages 15.1 points and has shown legitimate scoring potential, he’s been the only consistently reliable option, and only two Irish players average double digits, with forward Tae Davis as the other, checking in at 10.4 points per game.

It’s hard not to notice the spread on this game when looking at the NCAA basketball lines as it’s a huge number,, but Marquette is already battle-tested and it has passed the bulk of those tests with flying colors. I think the Golden Eagles show up in a big way at home.

NCAAB Pick: Marquette Golden Eagles -21 (-110)
