The Gaels’ last game was an upset loss to Weber State, 61-57, which put an early damper on their season. The Aztecs lost their second game but held off Long Beach State to win their last game 88-76.

Saint Mary’s Off To Shaky Starter

Saint Mary’s was ranked 23rd in the AP Top 25 at the start of the season. However, that only lasted one week. After winning the first two games, 107-28 against Stanislaus State and 72-58 against New Mexico, the loss to Weber State could change some early college basketball predictions.

In the win over New Mexico, the Gaels’ offense did enough to support a solid defensive showing. The offense relied heavily on Aidan Mahaney, who scored 25 points for Saint Mary’s in the win.

However, against Weber State, it was a different story. Saint Mary’s offense completely collapsed with Mahaney and Harry Wessels, who came off the bench, tying for the team lead in scoring at 11 points. Nothing was going down for the Gaels, who shot 40% from the field and 18.5% from three. On top of that, they had 15 turnovers in the game.

The Gaels did have a decent enough game on defense, with Weber State shooting 40.4% from the field, but the offense could not get anything going. That offensive performance could change college basketball lines until Saint Mary’s proves reliable.

San Diego State Finding a New Groove

Last season, San Diego State made a surprise March Madness run to the national championship game. The Aztecs eventually fell short against Connecticut, and they entered this season with mixed college basketball predictions.

San Diego State did lose some key players from last season’s team, Matt Bradley and Keshad Johnson, which hasn’t led to the best college basketball lines. However, through three games, it seems like Jaedon LeDee will be the one to step up. He is averaging 25 points and 9.3 rebounds, leading the team in both categories in all three games.

LeDee has been the driving force of the offense, but the question is how will he be supported. In San Diego State’s one loss this season, 74-65 to BYU, LeDee had 21 points and got some help from Reese Waters with 15, but the rest of the team struggled.

In the win over Long Beach State, LeDee took over again with 27 points, but this time, the whole starting lineup was in double-figure scoring. San Diego State’s defense was good enough to keep games competitive, but the supporting cast around LeDee needs to be there to have success.

This is shaping into an exciting game for the Continental Tire Main Event tournament, with two defensive-minded teams facing off. However, given how Saint Mary’s offense has looked, it is hard to back them in college basketball picks.

That leaves San Diego State with a good chance to win this game, especially given LeDee’s recent scoring.
