Southern Utah Getting Some Early Confidence
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds have a nice 3-1 record heading into Friday night, but their competition level hasn’t been stellar. After a season-opening loss to New Mexico, the Thunderbirds have built up their record against La Verne, Saint Katherine, and Bethesda, so Kansas is a definite step up.

Kansas Looking Like a Title Contender Again
Kansas may have lost a lot of key pieces from their championship team a season ago, but there is plenty of talent left for the Jayhawks this season, as shown in the team’s win over Duke on Tuesday. Freshman Gradey Dick had some key baskets down the stretch after not doing well for much of the game, powering the Jayhawks to victory.
“We didn’t know where he was at times; we sent out a missing person’s report in the second half,” Kansas interim coach Norm Roberts said about Dick after Tuesday’s win. “But this is his first real big-boy game he’s played in, and I thought he really responded.”
Dick has been strong for much of his first collegiate season, averaging 16.3 points and shooting 57.1% from the field. The 6-8 guard will be a key cog to the Jayhawks’ drive for a repeat title.
Junior forward Jalen Wilson has also been strong, leading Kansas in scoring (21.7 points) and rebounds (10.3) in the early going. Wilson is also dishing out 4.3 assists per contest.
Junior guard Dajuan Harris Jr. has been a versatile piece for the Jayhawks, pacing the team with 7.7 assists per game while scoring 7.3 points a contest. Harris is also averaging 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals, making things tough on opposing backcourts.
