Michigan State has lost two neutral-site contests, but will be the favorite in the college basketball spreads when it plays a pure road game for the first time this season Sunday at Nebraska.
The Spartans have endured a difficult schedule in the early going while losing to Duke, Arizona and unbeaten James Madison (79-76, OT) before dropping their Big Ten opener at home against Wisconsin 70-57 on Tuesday.
Senior guard Tyson Walker (20.7 points) leads Michigan State, which has played good defense for the most part in the first eight games but struggled to score against the better teams. However, the Spartans have beaten the Cornhuskers in 11 straight meetings.
Nebraska started the season with seven straight victories, but was hammered by Creighton 89-60 at home last Sunday and fell at Minnesota 76-65 in its Big Ten lidlifter on Wednesday.
Michigan State, ranked fourth in the preseason national poll, is +2600 to win the NCAA title in the Las Vegas odds while the Cornhuskers are +30000.
Spartans Making Under Bettors Rich
Michigan State is allowing 63.3 points per game and 37.1% shooting from the field – ranking second in the conference in both and helping under bettors go 7-0 at the sportsbook after losing the opener versus JMU.
The Spartans surrendered 10 makes from 3-point range against Wisconsin, but more importantly were pounded on the glass as the Badgers grabbed 11 offensive rebounds.
Walker scored 22 to lead the way for Michigan State and matched his season high with three 3-pointers versus Wisconsin, but the Spartans received more than five points from just two players.
A.J. Hoggard is the only other player averaging in double figures scoring (10.1) after dropping in 14 against the Badgers and Jaden Akins contributes 9.6 per game.
Michigan State is just 3-5 ATS, but beat the NCAA spread twice against Nebraska last season.
Huskers Bettors 0-3 ATS Last Three
Nebraska beat mostly second-level Division I teams, except for Oregon State, to start 7-0. The last two have exposed weaknesses.
The Cornhuskers were embarrassed by cross-state rival Creighton at home, going 2-for-22 from 3-point range, and coughed up a 15-point halftime lead at Minnesota after being the road favorite in the college basketball lines.
“We’re not physical enough right now. That’s what it boils down to. I’d love to give you 10 reasons why, but that’s it. You’ve got to be more physical. You have to take more pride in it. You have to get sick of getting punked at some point.”

Michigan State vs Nebraska Best Bets
It is truly difficult to figure out how good both of these teams are. Michigan State was projected as a top-five team in the preseason, but has not been able to live up to that lofty ranking. Nebraska looked good against lesser teams early on, but struggled against tougher opponents the last two. The Spartans appear to have a little more talent if they find a better form. We expect coach Tom Izzo to get them going on Sunday, especially if Walker can get more help in the scorebook.
