Pac-12 Rivals Battle to Escape Basement
Rivalry Renewed
The Stanford Cardinal and California Golden Bears are both having miserable seasons. One of the big surprises of this upcoming game for those who bet online and follow the Pac-12 is that Cal actually has a better Pac-12 Conference record than Stanford.
Stanford is 5-9 but Cal is ahead of it in the standings because it is 1-3 in conference play – even if the Golden Bears are 2-13 overall.

Cal has won two of three, though, so are they a good value play versus the college basketball odds in this spot?
Let’s check the latest college basketball odds, stats, injury reports and college basketball lines for Stanford vs California. We’ve plenty of NCAA basketball odds for you to consider.
Stanford Winless in League
The Cardinal are in huge trouble. They are 0-4 in the Pac-12.
They have already lost three home games in Pac-12 play. They will play nine of their remaining 16 Pac-12 games on the road.
It’s not going to get any easier, and they are already buried at the bottom of the conference standings after Cal and Washington State grabbed conference victories over the weekend.
Stanford just doesn’t finish games well. It was right there in the hunt with Arizona State in a conference game one month ago, but its offense faltered down the stretch.
Its defense couldn’t get stops in a close game against Colorado last week. It then failed to handle Utah this past weekend in a game where its offense just didn’t operate smoothly.
It’s always something different for this team, but the common thread is that Stanford just doesn’t play very well in the final five minutes of a close game.
That has to be dealt with immediately for this team, which is going nowhere and is staring at the need to make major changes. Coach Jerod Haase is definitely on the hot seat, coaching to save his job over the next two months.
California Making Strides
The Cal Golden Bears are just 2-13, but one of those wins is a Pac-12 win.
Cal beat Colorado 80-76 on Saturday after the Bears made six of their first nine 3-point shots and thrived at the offensive end of the floor.
Cal built a 21-point lead midway through the second half and held on when Colorado made a late rally.
The Golden Bears lost their first 12 games but have won two of three, so are they “hot” right now? This is clearly a bad team but the players certainly aren’t quitting on the season or tuning out head coach Mark Fox.

Stanford vs California Picks & Prediction
The Golden Bears are playing better than the Cardinal but they aren’t healthy. Stanford is going to be in total desperation mode this Friday, so it is the better option in the sportsbook, getting 7½ points.
This is an ugly game all the way around and probably a tricky one for college basketball picks, but Stanford will figure out a way to get its first Pac-12 win of the season.
Stanford is listed at -420 in our Vegas lines. This means that if you wager $100 on the Cardinal, you have a chance to win $24. California is also +330 offering a chance to win $330 on a $100 wager.
The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives the Cardinal an 80.77% chance to win, with the Golden Bears at 23.23%.
