No. 4 Bruins Host Unranked Cardinal

The Stanford Cardinal hit the road on Thursday for a date with the dangerous No. 4 UCLA Bruins. Stanford is third from the bottom in the Pac-12 standings but managed to upset the No. 8 Arizona Wildcats over the weekend. The Bruins, however, already beat Stanford handily this season and are undefeated in their previous four games.

Can lightning strike twice, or will UCLA dominate Stanford for the second time this year?

Cardinal Looking for Back-to-Back Upsets

The Stanford Cardinal put the skids on a two-game losing streak on Saturday with a stunning win over the then-No. 4 Arizona Wildcats. Stanford can take down two ranked conference rivals in less than seven days. But, at 11-14 overall and 5-9 in the Pac-12, can we trust Stanford to snag back-to-back upset wins versus top 10 teams?

Looking at Stanford’s betting statistics, I can see several reasons to fade the Cardinal on Thursday.

In the games following an outright win, Stanford is 4-6 ATS (40%) following an outright victory. The Cardinal are also 6-7 ATS at home, 7-7 against conference teams, and cover less than half of the time overall.

ATS figures aren’t scripture, but stats don’t lie and Stanford already lost to UCLA by 14 points this season.

UCLA Remains Atop Pac-12

Not only are the UCLA Bruins leading the Pac-12 with a 12-2 conference record, but they are also on a 3-0 ATS winning streak. Two of their previous three wins were by 15 points or greater, and the Bruins are 6-3 ATS in their last nine games.

UCLA looked strong on Saturday with a 70-63 win over a tricky Oregon Ducks team on the road. It was the Bruins’ fourth win in a row and has them set up beautifully to go for five straight on Thursday. Jamie Jaquez Jr. led the Bruins with 25 points and 12 boards.

Jaquez Jr. may have gone off against Oregon, but the truth is, UCLA doesn’t have a great offense. Ranked 130th in the nation in scoring offense, the Bruins are ranked in the top five thanks to their stifling defense. They allow fewer than 60 PPG and rank eighth in defensive scoring allowed.

Stanford vs UCLA Betting Lines

Stanford vs UCLA Picks and Prediction

The primary issue I have with Stanford here is how they will score. The Bruins have one of the best defenses in the country, and Stanford’s offense ranks 217th in scoring at 69.2 PPG. A line of 13½ points may seem like a lot, but the Cardinal do not match up well against this Bruins team.

UCLA is listed at -1030 in our Vegas College Basketball lines. This means that if you wager $100 on UCLA, you have a chance to win $10. The Stanford is +680, offering a chance to win $680 on a $100 wager. The implied probability attached to the betting lines gives UCLA a 91.15% chance to win, with Stanford at 12.82%.
