No.17 Alabama has enjoyed early success this season, headlined by an elite offense, but it hasn’t been challenged yet. Ohio State will be the first real test for Alabama in the Emerald Coast Classic, making the Buckeyes a solid option for the best college basketball bets today.
The Crimson Tide have rolled through the competition this season, going undefeated through four games and last beating Mercer 98-67. The Buckeyes have also been solid, winning their last game against Western Michigan 73-56.
Offense is Reason to Bet Alabama
If Alabama keeps playing at this level, the NCAAB lines will quickly follow if they haven’t already. Even though the Crimson Tide have not faced an opponent on their level, it has not mattered. The way they have won has been so impressive that it can translate to any opponent.
Through the first four games of the season, Alabama’s offense has been elite, scoring at least 100 points in every game but one, which was the last victory over Mercer.

With all those high-scoring team performances, the Crimson Tide has the individual stats to back it up. Four players are averaging double-digit points per game, led by Mark Sears at 19.5. Aaron Estrada Has been reliable, averaging 15.3 points, while two freshmen, Grant Nelson (13.8) and Jarin Stevenson (10.3), round out the top four scorers.
The offense has been headlined by quick movement and elite shooting from a distance. The Crimson Tide are shooting 48.9% from behind the arc through the first four games, being a crucial aspect of the offense. The offense is a big reason why college basketball odds are siding with Alabama.
Ohio State Making Strides
Ohio State may not be undefeated heading into its matchup with Alabama, but that does not mean it can’t pose problems for the favorite in college basketball lines. The Buckeyes have played well, and their one loss came against Texas A&M, which was ranked 15th at the time.
Having experience against a quality opponent could work in Ohio State’s favor because Alabama has yet to be challenged. The Buckeyes kept the game close with Texas A&M, only losing 73-66. A big reason for that was the backcourt of the Buckeyes, which has been the team’s bright spot.
Bruce Thornton and Roddy Gayle have been early standouts for Ohio State, leading the team in points per game and assists. They are combining for 30.1 points and 8.5 assists, having an impact in every matchup. In the win over Western Michigan, they did not need to take complete control of the game, but they still combined for 25 points and seven assists.
For Ohio State to pose a threat in college basketball odds Thornton and Gayle will need to be very active in this game, making a significant impact. If that does happen, the Buckeyes could make things annoying for Alabama.
Alabama vs Ohio State Best Bet
Even with this being the first real test for Alabama, the team has already shown so much through the first four games. The Crimson Tide have covered every spread and their offense seems ready for a bigger test in Ohio State. The Buckeyes have the players to threaten the Crimson Tide, but in the end, Alabama has too many good scorers. If this game turns into a shootout, the Crimson Tide have the advantage in college basketball picks.
