Take North Carolina ATS in Rematch Against Syracuse

The No. 7 North Carolina Tar Heels (19-5) head on the road to face the Syracuse Orange (15-9) in a game that’s one of the more interesting NCAAB picks today. The game tips off on Tuesday and will be played in the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, NY. North Carolina is a heavy favorite at -8½ and the game has a high over/under set at 157.

North Carolina and Syracuse have met once already this season, in a game where the Tar Heels dominated en route to a 36-point victory. This makes today’s NCAAB lines even more noteworthy, as North Carolina is less than a double-digit favorite, even with Syracuse still attempting to find its footing with some recent struggles.

North Carolina vs Syracuse Under 157

The numbers favor the under here in a big way, and it’s easy to see why when comparing recent results. While North Carolina has consistently gotten the job done in true road environments this season, they’ve played lower-scoring games, with all seven games on an opponent’s floor this season falling well below 157 total points.

While both North Carolina and Syracuse can score (82.5 and 75.6 points per game, respectively), the college basketball betting trends here tell a story, and I like the under on 157.

North Carolina vs Syracuse ATS Pick: North Carolina -8

The Tar Heels and Orange have had a few up-and-down results of late. North Carolina has dropped two of its last four games, while Syracuse has lost three of five, with the most recent coming at home. North Carolina is simply the superior team here behind the stellar play of RJ Davis and Armando Bacot. The one-two punch averages more than a combined 35 points per game, with Davis checking in at 21.5 per, setting this up for a brutally tough matchup for the Orange.

The teams met in January in Chapel Hill, with the Tar Heels running away with a 103-67 victory. While I don’t see it being quite as wide of a margin nor as high-scoring, I think North Carolina gets a double-digit win here.

North Carolina vs Syracuse ATS Pick: North Carolina -8

North Carolina’s moneyline odds of -365 are simply too high to take straight, and it doesn’t make a ton of sense in parlays unless you have multiple favorites you’re targeting together. Unless you believe Syracuse pulls off the upset with moneyline odds of +285, I’d avoid this spot.
