Rematch in Semifinals
The TCU Horned Frogs were beaten by the Kansas Jayhawks last week, but it was only a four-point game. Therefore, it could be a tight game in the Big 12 Championship semifinal.
NCAA basketball odds have the Jayhawks at -8½, so bookmakers are expecting a more comfortable victory for the nationally-ranked side.
TCU Survives Texas
Just when it looked like it was the end of the road for the TCU Horned Frogs, they produced a great second-half comeback against Texas on Thursday.
They trailed by 20 points at one stage, but they clawed their way back to win 65-60 in what was one of their best-ever victories.
Mike Miles, who helped the Horned Frogs during the comeback, was proud of the way they fought back.
“The message was to stay confident, not get down on ourselves,” Miles told ESPN. “We knew it wouldn’t be easy to come back from 18 down, but we stuck together, we played better, we started to knock down some shots. That was the message.”
It was a good-bounce back effort following consecutive losses, including a 72-68 loss to the Kansas Jayhawks. Despite losing, they showed how tough they can be and that will give them confidence going forward.
The sportsbook isn’t giving them much respect, which has more to do with the way Kansas defeated West Virginia, but the Horned Frogs deserve their place in the semifinal.
They have been an excellent bet with an against-the-spread record of 18-10-3. That’s better than Kansas and they are also 4-1 at neutral venues.
Backing up the win over Texas a day later is the big test and the Jayhawks have more scoring threats, but the Horned Frogs are good enough to stick with them.
Kansas Makes Statement
College basketball lines expected the Kansas Jayhawks to beat West Virginia, but we didn’t see the 87-63 scoreline coming.
It was an emphatic performance from the Jayhawks, who covered the -9½ spread with ease. However, as good as the win was, they didn’t cover the spread vs. the TCU Horned Frogs last week.
They were -11½-point favorites in the four-point win, which was a better performance than their previous outing against TCU.
Kansas suffered a 74-64 loss on the road to the Horned Frogs, so it’s a close matchup and it will need to be at its best to avoid an exit in the Big 12 semis.
It has been a struggle for the Jayhawks to cover spreads, despite being one of the best teams in the country. They are only 15-16-1 ATS, so bettors haven’t had a good time following them.
They have to cover another sizable number on Friday and it could be difficult.
