The college basketball betting season opens on Monday night and you won’t get many more difficult calls than when the Texas Longhorns take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Hall of Fame Series at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
No. 19 Texas has six new players from the transfer portal along with four freshmen on the roster while Ohio State will have four new starters as the teams begin a quest to register another 20-win season.
The Buckeyes changed coaches midway through last season and Jake Diebler went 8-3 down the stretch to reach the NIT quarterfinals. Texas is coming off a 21-13 season in which it reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for coach Rodney Terry.
The Longhorns are +1600 to win the SEC in the NCAAM future odds while Ohio State is +900 to finish on top in the Big Ten.
Texas may have the edge in depth to start the season, but the Buckeyes have potential to be better. Your best bet in this first game of the season is to take the over, because both teams can score and the defenses are a work in progress.

Top 3 Texas vs Ohio State Betting Tips 11/4
1. Why Bet Texas on Opening Night?
Texas does not have a returning player who averaged eight or more points per game. However, the Longhorns had a big offseason in the portal.
Five of the six players brought in averaged at least 11 points last season, led by guard Jordan Pope from Oregon State (17.6). Fellow guard Tramon Mark averaged 16.2 at Arkansas while forward Jayson Kent (13.5) and guard Julian Larry (11.0) arrived from Indiana State.
Kadin Shedriick, a 6-foot-11 center who averaged 7.7.points a season ago, is the top returnee and much is expected from Arthur Kaluma up front. The 6-7 forward registered 14.4 points and seven rebounds per contest at Kansas State in 2023-24.

2. Why Bet Ohio State in 2024-25?
The Buckeyes should have a really good backcourt on opening night and Diebler will have to work on a rotation up front.
Bruce Thornton led Ohio State in scoring (15.7), assists (4.8) and steals (1.2) last season while Meechie Johnson Jr. transfers in from South Carolina after starting his college career with the Buckeyes. Johnson poured in 14.1 per game with the Gamecocks in 2023-24.

Transfer forwards Micah Parrish (San Diego State), Sean Stewart (Duke), 7-1 Aaron Bradshaw (Kentucky) and guard Ques Glover (Sanford) will try to find their role.
“We have a great combination of athleticism and skill in our front court,” Diebler told reporters. “We’re talented, we’re versatile, we have multiple guys who can play different positions, but the inexperience is something we have to answer.”
The tools are there. It would not be a bad idea to put some money on the Buckeyes to win the wide-open Big Ten in college basketball futures odds.
3. Expect Plenty of Offense in Sin City
Both teams made the over bettors very happy last season and we think they can do it again in 2024-25.
McDonald’s All American Tre Johnson is another option for Texas, who develop chemistry with so many potential scorers.
Thornton and Johnson will put up points for the Buckeyes, who must play better than an 80-62 exhibition loss to Cincinnati. Bradshaw may also be a player to watch for Ohio State.

You have to expect the defense to be better later in the season. Take over 146½ and add it to your NCAA basketball parlay on opening night.
