College Basketball Betting Parlay: Tournament Fireworks, Mar. 13

Bet the Exciting Matchups For Saturday

The conference tournaments are heading to a crescendo and Selection Sunday is tomorrow. This Saturday is filled with thrilling matchups that could go either way that I found myself picking two underdogs for our college basketball betting parlay.

Shockers Take Out the Bearcats

Top-seeded Wichita St. (16-4; 12-2) takes on fifth-seeded Cincinnati (11-10; 9-6) following its upset win over Saint Mary’s. This will be the Bearcats’ second crack at the AAC’s top dog following a six-point defeat back in January.

Both teams are dealing with several injuries and the Shockers have managed to string together eight straight wins despite shooting just above 40 percent for the season. They can thank their rebounding and prolific three-point bombing for that.

The Bearcats on the other hand play solid defense and limit opponents to commit as many turnovers as assists while keeping them honest from distance. But they are pretty tepid with their own shooting, especially from three where they’re only hitting at 31.1 percent.

Cincinnati can play at a higher tempo and get frantic on defense, but the Shockers are just more poised and will win this one by committing fewer turnovers and making their shots count more.

Wichita St. should get by Cincy again and book their place in the AAC Finals to get one step closer to returning to the NCAA March Madness tournament.

Beavers Push the Buffaloes

Cinderella’s story ends this evening for fifth-seed Oregon St. (16-12; 13-10) who upset UCLA and top-seeded Oregon to book this date with three-seed Colorado (22-7; 17-6)  for the Pac-12 crown. This will be their third meeting this season and the Buffaloes have mastered the Beavers so far.

The Buffaloes survived USC on the strength of effective shooting both from behind the arc and from the charity stripe. That’s where Colorado succeeds best and leads the nation in free throw percent at 83%. KenPom ranks their offense as top-20.

ORST has also excelled from behind the arc and hit ten threes each to propel themselves to this finals appearance. The Beavers can get hot and take out even the best.

But the difference here is with the team defense. The Buffaloes managed to hold ORST to under 37 percent shooting on both meetings. Both teams hit nearly the same amount of threes and had similar rebounds.

Colorado’s versatility will push them to a win here although I suspect the Beavers will make them work for it.

  • Pick: Colorado to win and cover

Yellowjackets Go Over Seminoles

What a crazy ACC tournament it’s been as both Duke and Virginia were taken out by the darned pandemic helping put together this unlikely Finals. Georgia Tech (16-8; 12-6) and Florida St. (16-5; 12-4) meet for the second time this season with the Yellowjackets holding an advantage despite the online sportsbook spread.

The spread was similar back when they first met then GT quickly asserted itself as a superior program. They won the turnover battle, hit more threes, and shot better overall beating FSU 76-65. I believe FSU will play a lot better this time around, but GT should still edge this one out.

FSU has the boards advantage averaging 37.3 to GT’s 31, which is also the amount of rebounds both pulled in their first meeting. But GT is more efficient on offense averaging more assists and fewer turnovers and fouls.

In a close game, I’ll side with the team that is better handling the ball and not sending its opponent to the line. GT completes the upset to win the ACC.

  • Pick: Georgia Tech to win

Parlay: Wichita St. to cover, and Colorado to cover, and Georgia Tech to win
